  • D.I.Y Windscreen wiper jets upgrade

    [Mod Edit]
The first post has been removed.
The part number is 85381-0K010 and you will need 2 of these.

The simple replacement procedure is here:

On the bonnet up near the windscreen you will see a hole - ideally placed to put in a small flat screwdriver to push up the rear lug on the washer jet. First, push the front lug free with a screwdriver, gently lever up, then push the rear lug off using a flat screwdriver going up thru the hole and then remove the washer jet intact - leave the hose attached. Pull it all through then remove the washer jet, replace with the hilux jet, push back into place.

Thanks PP's great idea and works well.

    Talk about detail!! Great stuff.

If this works, Toyota is going to suddenly start worrying about the failure rate of Hilux washer jets - 'cause we'll all be buying them!!

Wonder if a set could be hooked up to do the headlights as well???!!!

Headlight washers would make it easier to (legally) fit HID upgrades for the standard headlights.

As I understand it (not sure if this has changed recently though), the current Australias Design Rules require self levelling rear suspension and headlight washers for the legal fitment of HID headlights.

Regardless, headlight washers are a great safety feature - I think they were pioneered by Volvo. A lot of their top of the line cars in the 70's came fitted with them.

One of my neighbours has got himself a new Hilux. I wonder if he would notice the washer nozzles missing

            Nice clean job there, Matt.

            Thanks for the photos.

Be interested to see if you can rig such a setup for the headlights.

Good job Matt. I know the jets in my VE Commodore Berlina are worlds apart from the Prado or any other car I have ever owned. Looks like the new Hilux jets are the same style. I wonder if the new Holden ones are any cheaper than Toyota. Certainly appears to be a cheap & effective upgrade. Well done.

Great work. Such a simple idea, it makes you wonder why Toyota didn't think of it (especially if they can get $42- per car for them).

Boring White, stock standard except for proper recovery points on front & shortly a decent air compressor. I spent too much on the car to do anything else to it yet

Well done Matt. Might be a worthy mod for the weekend.

What amazes me more is that Toyota are either manufacturing or purchasing two different washer sprays when it would have been more cost effective to stock just the one. However, maybe they figured that someone with a Prado would try a retrofit and tell everyone else so that they could get an extra $42 out of us

                        Jacto,
A friend said the reason for the 2 different ones is that Prado made in Japan and Hilux in Thailand.

                        Maybe that's the reason.

Yeah I guess so but still designed by Toyota and I think engines are the same even though vehicles made in different countries. Maybe not a high cost item so doesn't matter to them like it does us

I had my Prado in for the 80k service on Tuesday (ouch!) and had a new Corolla as a loan car for the day. Even the Corolla has the Hilux type washer nozzles. I have ordered my Hilux nozzles and pick them up today.
I must admit I didn't look to see if they would fit the Prado but I might drop past a dealer today. Surely they would be cheap as they would be a local product??
