  • Rear Cargo Rack/Barrier- Lifestyle rack

I know there has been an article on the Lifestyle racks before but it took me ages to find it when I wanted to purchase one.

It may be of interest to some owners who do not want to go to all the trouble of a drawer set up, which, although there are some great setups out there,
would take a bit of time & effort to remove when the full cargo area is required.

The Lifestyle racks mount in the third row seat mounts & will come out in a couple of seconds & can be stored flat.
Not only can things be stored secularly underneath but articles & luggage can be strapped down to the rack or covered by a net.

If anyone is interested his web site is:-

    www.lifestyleracks.com.au

He mentioned that he was working on a version with a upper cargo barrier, but needed a engineers certificate of approval.

At least he has a couple of happy customers.
    Cheers,

      Addy,
I think he wants $325 for them, depends how good you can bargain.
Now feel a bit safer knowing I won't wear a tools box in the event of an accident. (Cheap insurance)

          Borgy,
They are very strong, no problems sitting on them. He does have legs for the underside if people are at all concerned about weight carrying. (Not needed)

The cargo net is from Supercheap, from memory $18.
Its about the same appearance & quality as the netting in your rear door.

          Cheers,

Re: Rear Cargo Rack/Barrier- Lifestyle rack

I purchased one of these just before Christmas and used it over the holiday period. I am very impressed with the sturdiness and quality of the product. All sharp edges have been removed and it is so easy to install and remove. I purchased two support legs for when I load the fridge etc. I can highly recommend this for people who do not want drawers but need a solution for managing their storage space better.

We have our chairs and table under the rack and all the other gear on top. Easy to get the chairs and table out when picnicking or for short breaks while traveling!

If you were technically minded, you could convert a full cargo cage to something similar, then you have a barrier that is ampidextrus (is that how ya spell it haha) Looks pretty snazzy stuff.

                Hey Keith
Any chance of a photo with the fridge in. Is it on a slide and what is the height like. Can you open lid given it is close to roof?

                Cheers

Re: Rear Cargo Rack/Barrier- Lifestyle rack

We have an ARB fridge. It works well with the lifestyle rack, but you do have to be tall to see in. Same for any elevated fridge I guess. The lid cannot be opened all the way, but cerainly enough to grab what you want.

Having the cargo area split into two definitely makes packing (and finding stuff later) easier.

                    Hi Guys,

I recently purchased one of these racks, based on the wrap given in this thread. It is an awesome bit of kit, and as described earlier, is really easy to fit. I had a fridge and an esky on it for our recent venture around the NP's in Nthn NSW, and worked well, and is very sturdy.

I am thinking about one of these instead of a drawer system.
Can anyone tell me if it will fit with a full length cargo barrier installed?

I plan to mount my fridge in the second row "40" seat section by removing it.

That would make the fridge kinda high-up, wouldn't it? Or did you have another solution for gaining access to the fridge... without need for a ladder .

LFar, Yep, the fridge sits high, and it's not so easy to see into, but access to gear in the back is excellent. I've seen a few drawer systems with the fridge high too. There's always that fridge lift/slide gadget if it was a real problem.

Quite a few people have seen our lifestyle rack and just about everyone has commented what a great idea it is.

Hoppy50, It definitely fits with the Ausguard barrier, I'd expect it to work with the Milford too. (I'm sure you meant 'full height', not 'full length')

Thanks Michael. I was also very keen to see the answer to Hoppy's question. That is great news... now, I just need to have another chat with she who matters most .

Re: Rear Cargo Rack/Barrier- Lifestyle rack

Left a message with 'Lifestyle racks' today and had my call returned this evening.
The rack is supposed to handle about 90kg in the middle, with the support legs, a fair bit more. Its hard to tell without seeing one in the flesh but I think I am going to commit to one of these. I think he said they are about $325.

What got my attention even more was the picture of the second row fridge mount.... I was going to have one fabricated at a cost of about $400 but the lifestyle option is considerably less, about $140 I think. He was reluctant to send me a picture or to put it on the website as people would simple copy it... I dont blame him.

Will post some pics when I get it set up.
