Re: Rear Cargo Rack/Barrier- Lifestyle rack

this is what I sorta modeled my false floor off. Would have bought one except I wanted it to cover the whole area.

I recently purchased one of these racks, based on the wrap given in this thread. It is an awesome bit of kit, and as described earlier, is really easy to fit. I had a fridge and an esky on it for our recent venture around the NP's in Nthn NSW, and worked well, and is very sturdy.
That would make the fridge kinda high-up, wouldn't it? Or did you have another solution for gaining access to the fridge... without need for a ladder .

      Hi LFaR,

It worked quite well, however, nearly got a hernier each time I lifted it in and out. In future I think I would probably put the fridge in the trailer (if possible - was a hire trailer).

For "everyday" use, the rack is quite good, with the ability to place heavier things underneath...

You wouldn't happen to have a photo of it in with the cargo barrier as well would you? How much clearance is there between the back of the rack and the barrier?
I've got a milford barrier and, although it's hard to tell, from the photos I've seen of the rack it seems to be quite close to the second row seats.

I was assured by the manufacturer that it fits with a Ausguard cargo barrier. No reason to think it wouldnt fit with a Milford. Give them a call!

No photo, will try but this weekend is hectic. There is very little clearance between the rack and the barrier. The lifestyle rack has a bit of fore-and-aft travel on the mounts so it can be pulled a short distance away from the barrier, but it's pretty good to have it the way it is. I think there are small tolerances available at barrier install time, so you could make sure it fits how you like by taking that into account or leaving it in that car and explaining to the fitter if you aren't installing it yourself. I did a test fit before I drilled the lower holes to make sure it was right.

Thanks Michael, I've already got the barrier installed so there's not much I can do there. I emailed John at lifestyle racks and he said that there is approx 245-250mm from the forward most 3rd row seat clip to the end of the rack, and I've got 26-27cm from that point to the cargo barrier so it sounds as though it should fit in.

I sent Lifestyle Racks an email last night asking how much they where.
They got back to me to say they were now $355.00 plus $30 freight to Sydney.
Starting to get a bit dear for what they are so I reckon I'll make my own.

Jeff, Can you tell me what the height is from the floor to the underside of the lifestyle rack? ie; could I squeeze a spare wheel underneath if required?

I think a spare won't fit in there unless you have switched to corolla rims

My lifestyle rack should arrive end of this week or early next so I'll be able to tell you then. From what I've seen the rack basically sits level with the 3rd row seat clips, so if you measure the distance from the floor to the clip it should give you a rough idea of how much clearance you will have.

Ok, I measured it: It's about 225-230mm between the carpet and the underside of the rack at the back near the door. The Tyres are quite a bit wider than that.

If not under, then presumably it can be safely secured on the rack. That's also what I like about this rack, it provides many tie-down points.

                            Seriously considering one of these...

Just ordered this morning, including the fridge mount for the second row seat. The fridge mount will be a very tight fit,,,, well the fridge will be not the mount. My National Luna is a little longer than the engel it has been designed for but I think I can make it work.

Was hoping to avoid placing another wheel on top of the lifestyle rack just to keep the weight on the floor but I sure I can work around this issue to.

I got my hands on one of these earlier in the year. So damn easy to fit and use it's not funny.
Holds the Engel no probs (although I got a couple of support legs off John just in case) and has heaps of space underneath for a few plasitc "drawers" of recovery gear, tucker and stuff.
All you need is a few tie-down straps and you're away!!
