But they go on to say that there's no lose of effectiveness of the brake's with out the shim's fitted. If it was me I would be fitting them with the shim's as the boffins at Toyota put them there for a reason. If you need a hand give me a call mate

I have just made a few enquiries myself and have been told to just use the outside shim with these pads.
Does anyone else have more info on this please?

      Thanks for the response Fellas.
Kris after our chat I trial fitted the Bendix pads with the extra Toyota shims.
Remembering that the new Bendix pads have "Noise Absorbing Shims" fixed/clipped to the backing plate of the pad.
These shims consist of a black fiber reinforced rubber, Carbon steel and black fiber reinforced rubber in those layers.
When adding the OEM shims as well they seemed to catch on the pins that locate the pads.
Took the OEM shims out until further research.
      Cheers

        Hi Troy,
It was ABS who I rang today to see what they do when fitting these pads,
They said they just use the outside shim, but I think I will just leave the shims out anyway as all seems fine for now.

        Cheers

Had changed all the pads without any problems, also added a very thin silicon grease on the metal plates and on the pads backside to prevent corrosion.

Overall experience for a weekend warrior is well pleased along with the guide the job was a cinch. Just need to find the weird pumping/squeaking noise on the driver side console.

I'm up for a pad, rotor and fluid change after Christmas. I was having a read about greasing calipers. Some sites say to put silicone grease on the back of the pad and the pad guide clips and others say to clean everything up and only apply grease to the caliper slide pins and nothing else due to risk of pad surface contamination.

What have you guys done in terms of greasing?

              Thanks,

When doing a brake service, I'd say put copper grease/anti seize on the pad where it contacts the metal clips etc on the calliper so it moves without making any noise and clunks. And with floating callipers, instead of grease on the slide pins, use silicone paste. Grease will attack the rubber boots and basically destroy them.

So I have just done the discs (used T3) and Bendix pads. Based on what I read here I couldn't tell if I should use all the backing plates that were on the old pads as the new ones have one already on them so I used them all. Is this right?

Also people mention using Techstream to bleed the brakes but I am trying to find what is the steps to do this as I have the cable etc. Or do people just bleed the fluid out the old way.

with the pads, i think its best to reuse all the backing plates from the old one to the new pad. as for the bleeding, rather just make a simple bleeder bottle, and bleed the old way

Changed out the rotors and pads a while ago but forgot to post re the cracks in the rear discs.

PLEASE check your rear discs for cracks. these ones cracked on the inside edge making it impossible to see with just the wheel off.

If the steering wobbles under brakes your front rotors are out of line, if the car pulses under brakes the rear discs are out. Mine was pulsing but didn't know they where cracked until i took them off.

Cracks on the face that follow the casting. This side is not supported like the outside.

New rotors front and back. DBA T2 slotted.
                            Toyota pads used.

Originals lasted 120000 with plenty remaining. !st replacements lasted until 200000 when i discovered the cracks.

This needs to be put on your regular maintenance program. Remove the rear discs, check pads and handbrake shoes, clean with brake cleaner or water, NO COMPRESSED AIR, re grease the adjuster nuts and reinstall.

                            Rusty.

                              Thanks

Thanks for this write up. It gave me the confidence too to do the job. Completed within 2 hrs on a 95 series.

The Haynes manual was helpful as a guide too.

I tried this today but for the life of me couldn't get the caliper bolts undone. Ended up breaking my socket wrench.
Still tossing up whether to just go buy a cordless impact wrench or pay someone to do it.
The cost to pay someone will likely be the same cost anyway so thinking I just buy the tools and then I have them forever.

Edit: I got the better of me and I went and bought a cordless Impact Wrench. It took a few goes at it but I got the buggers off. After that the pad change was easy peasy.
