    Thanks TP,thats a generous offer.

I'm really keen to see if I can score some brake pads soon cause my pads are getting very low.

I also need to get some rotors since I got them machined last time and they are at their limit.

I'll give Edwardstown a ring first thing Monday. If I can get them at that price even with freight to Perth I think Ill still be well in front!

    Cheers Michael

Re: DIY - Brake Pad change (includes pics)

      Hi Guys,

Just installed a set of Bendix 4WD pads front and rear and I must say it nearly cost me a new windscreen

The brakes are 10 fold improvement on the standard ones. I like a strong braking vehicle.
And at $90.95 for front and the same for the rear, it was pretty cheap too!

      Cheers
      Terry

Just changed mine over for the Bendix pads, not sure if they're any huge improvement yet but the old girl still stops and I have more than the bare minimum of pad again, so thanks for the photos and instructions, I wouldn't have attempoted them otherwise.

        Cheers,

        Dave

Just replaced front and rear pads with OE units after 110000 km. Original pads had 3+ mm left, possible good for 20000 km. Had the rotors machined at the same time. OE pads are not as 'bighty' as Bendix but i can still get the ABS to activate. Cost was $100 for machining and $180 pads front and rear.
Friend replaced his Prado with some cheap brand and had trouble with noise, performance and an incredible amount of brake dust on the front wheels. Had to change them back to OE as sick of dust etc.

My previous Prado was a 2006 TD manual and had 118000 km and 4-5 mm left on the pads.
Maybe next change in 100000 km will replace the rotors and use Bendix.

Just wanted to thank the original poster for putting this up - I live in Prague where Toyota is still not a well represented brand; if you want something done, you're pretty much obliged to take it to one of the three dealers. They wanted 1100 Czech Crowns for an air filter (300 crowns via an auto parts place in the UK), and 4500 crowns just to change the rear pads. Paid about 900 crowns for the pads out of the UK, and it took me about an hour to replace the pads using the instructions here. No problems at all. I do, however, have another problem with the power when letting out the clutch in 1st/2nd gear - will post that in the correct forum.

Awesome post. Thanks for the great attention to detail and sensational photos. Just curious -- I couldn't find any reference to the 95 series (KZJ95R) on the forums re pad change procedure. Anyone know if there are any significant differences that might come into play by following these instructions? Thanks all! Cheers.

Has anyone heard that ABS systems dont like brake fluid being pushed back thru the sytem?
ie- Not pushing the brake pistons back into the caliper and making the fluid level rise in the Master Cylinder?
My mate at Pedders has recently done an ABS upskill course and mentioned that ABS systems have alot of 'small one way type valves'. Apperently most ABS sytems have around 10 of these and hense the reason ABS is very difficult to bleed if it gets air in it.
He recommends clamping the rubber brake line on the caliper your working on & opening the bleed nipple before pushing the pistons in.
This way the fluid is not back flushing thru the ABS system.
Of course you will need to bleed the system the finish the job.

Im wondering if back flushing thru (ie making fluid in master cylinder rise) an ABS system could be a reason for some failures or even the soft brake pedals we sometimes complain about???

Yes same here. Ive done it a stack of times as well.
Its just some new information Im trying to validate.
I would think a Pedders ABS upskill course would have a few pro's teaching their franchise owners.
