    Well I was not too happy with the $650 quote from the dealership, especially as they first asked me if I had had the vehicle serviced there before and when I said no they came up with that quote. So I decided to take it to a third party Diesel place that I have used before and I know they do a great job. I figured what the heck if I am charged more than $650 at least I know the work has been done well. So I picked it up and the bill was $495.00 :shock: . So the dealership was just going to rip me off as the place I took it too do the exact same service as per the book.

      was charged $770 (which i believe is in line with the 'recommended' Toyota price and a hell of a lot cheaper than the $1000 quoted from another dealership). this included the gearbox and transfer case fluid change that i wanted even though its not listed in the service book. very happy with their work and service. I rang at 830am and they did the service that day. I checked their work after and it was all done except for a missing bolt on the bash plate which they refitted promptly the next day. nice people too.

        I hope they came round to you to replace the bolt & you didnt have to go to them

          Just be careful when you think you have achieved a great price for a service. This normally means something(s) have not been done, e.g. valve clearance adjustment and/or diff oil change. In case you're wondering, yes I was an apprentice mechanic many years ago (never finished it!!!) and I know what they used to get up to. :evil: :evil:

            Andy your spot on there, just have to have a look at the Toyota service book for the 40,000 service, it says that the valve clearance gets inspected, you know how they inspect it it? lift up the bonnet & listen to the engine, & they have the cheek to charge you for this so called service, I couldnt believe it when the service guy told me, so of course they tell you that you need a valve ajustment for another $200. lost all faith in Toyotas service departments, I will do it my self then at least I know it will have been done properly.

              Busselton Toyota have been pretty good to us, even led a loan vehicle free of charge without any hassle. Mind you we book in weeks in advance and drive 2 and half hours which means an overnight stay and plenty of food and grog.
              They have done all our 6 monthly/yearly services, i do the 3 monthly service.
              Very happy with the pricing and quality of service.

                The guys did all the work, services fitting accessories etc untill i moved 6 months ago and was always happy with price and service. ARB stockists and NRMA Office as well. Invoices always matched quote and if they needed to do soemthing while it was being serviced if in doubt they rang. Car always ready on time and would fit a service in on short notice if you could give them the car for the day.
                2006 TD GXL: 240 Ligtforce, Cooper St's, Safari Snorkel, ARB Roof cage, OME Suspension + Polyairs, Warn XP9500 winch. The list of wants is a lot longer!!

                  We take our prado to either Steve at ACTIVE 4 X 4 at Berefield NSW or to Doug at Blackbutt Automotive at New Lambton. Because Steve is not tied into a franchise Steve stocks sells and fits ARB/Ironman and just about anything else you need. He is honest and will talk 4bn to you. Doug at Blackbutt is a 4 wheel driver from way back when the only option in your 4 b was a shortyFJ40 or a patrol and you could sit in your engine bay and do heaps of stuff youself. he knows his stuff and a good bloke to deal with. If your in the Newcastle/lake macquarie/Maitland area , well worth checking out :

                    Just got my 10000km service at Goldfields Toyota. Not only did they only charge the agreed $180, they also fixed my busted spotlight globe which I had removed the night before. I went into Coventrys to get a spare and when I picked up the car they had put a new globe in for me at no charge!

                    They also fixed the groan from the rear end which they said was due to the diff oil being "burnt", apparently it was only a bedding in oil not meant to last long?

                        We have been using Windsor Toyota (NSW) since the beginning. We didn't buy the car from them, but they have given us excellent service I believe. I like to think I know when I'm being taken for a ride or being taken advantage of, especially as I'm "only a woman". But the service dept at Windsor Toyota have always treated me the same as they treat my husband, with respect. Their pricing hasn't been too bad either I don' think. We drive from Penrith to Windsor for it, and I think it's worth it.

                          I recommend Pitstop 4X4 at Wynnum on Brisbane's bayside. I first heard about him through Roothy in 4WD Action. I had a transmission issue for which the local Toyota dealer quoted a very large amount. Mike kept the car for a few days and methodically worked through the problem and solved it for half the price.

                            At the last service I was told the 80k would be $1,000.

                            As I had let my service times lapse the last service was at 73k at a cost of $600 ish. So the dealer wants another piece of me in 7k time!! Whilst understanding 80k is a big service for a petrol engine I remain Not Happy Jan - especially when I am looking to but a 150 off them.

                            Any recommendations on Brisbane north side most welcome
                            Silver 2005 GXL Prado, Petrol, auto, gold plated rated recovery points, 60ltr Waeco, Vacation Camper, Gunyah side shade, 265/65 17R Pirelli Scorpian ATR tyres (x4) and 1 new Grand Crapper (spare), Max Air II plus still lots of recovery gear!! And PradoPoint sticker!!

                              Had my under a lease so had to use Dealer , feel just have to trust them that they are doing what they say . But now out of lease took mine to Robson Brothers 4WD in Welshpool for the 80k and was more than impressed , did get a call from Rob during the service asking me if I had been doing any thing under the bonnet as there were a few broken bolts that had temp repairs done to them ,ummm dealers :roll: !!! But can recommend Rob from Robson Brothers for those in Perth as he was recommended to me and will be using him from now on. Cheers Digger

                                In Brisbane, I've found Downtown Toyota (Morningside) and Sci-Fleet (Taringa) both very good and professional. Downtown provide a discount for RACQ members on parts as well as labour. You just have to sk. (Can't remember if it's 5% or 10%.) I've got in the habit of phoning around several metropolitan dealers when I need a major service. I guess that's the luxury of being in a metropolitan area, but it's amazing how much they vary for a straight log book service.
