  • Endless air on a 1KZ

    Hi all
With a bit of help from google I have finished my project of an A/C compressor for onboard air. There was a fair bit of engineering work to make the bracket, drive pulley and tensioner but it has all come together well. It feeds into a 3l alloy reciever tank mounted on the r/h side chassis rail with a check valve, pressure relief valve and pressure switch mounted on a manifold.
One tyre from dead flat to 28psi takes about 40 secs. Pics below

I have some autocad pdf's of the drive pulley mod if anyone is interested, though the bracket assy I will have to remove, mic up and draw as it was a work in progress to manufacture.
The guys at work have put their orders in - though with bub number 4 due in four weeks, time is expensive!

    Cheers

Very nice install . I have seen a 1kz done once before but yours is a much neater install.

      Awesome work.

PS. Can I get some details/price on that air receiver? It looks a neat little unit.

      Cheers

        Thanks guys

Mick - the air tank, check valve and pressure switch were from a seller on ebay

        http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BOSS-Air-Tank-3- ... 240%3A1318

$75 for the 3 litre tank.

Thanks Adea, It's a nice little unit. I might have to get one of those, I've been mucking around with an old fire extinguisher in the shed, but it's less than ideal.

Impressed. Well done, I've often thought these are possibly a better option than 12V in some circumstances let a lone the ability to air up in that time

Glad to see it all came together, did you end up supporting the comp off the other mounting lugs onto the original compressor bolts?

              Regards

Brilliant and top job. Any concerns about the drain on the tank getting knocked/bashed off road? Perhaps a plate and hole cut to allow a socket or pliers in to drain.

Sanden SD5 or Sankyo. The SD5 is a 5 cylinder unit that will put out 8cfm.

                      Try

                      Sanden SD-508 Model 8390

Factory fit on Mitsubishi Sigmas... Don't pay more than $40 from a wrecker.

Needs to be modified by tapping and plugging the oil return port in the valve plate, also drilling and tapping the oil fill plug to accept a grease nipple.

                          No worries WES.

I'm not sure why this unit is so popular as an air compressor. I'm sure others could be used as long as you can solve the lubrication issues. Maybe it's cheap and easily available.

The bracket mounts onto the head with the two bolt holes that the intercooler bracket mounted on, a 10mm bolt hole on the head further towards the front and then a 8mm hole at the front where the a/c tensioner bracket mounts on. There is a supporting leg which is bolted to the original a/c compressor front mounting bolt.

No dramas with the drain cock, the front tank bracket shields quite well - though if you were to go rock crawling it would need more substantial protection.
