You mean the other 8, as there are 10 all up

There are 2 above the rear wheel arch, although they are smaller than the others and are more like a bump stop as they aren't bolted through the chassis.

    Cheers Andrew

The drilled bolt holes after fitment are more likely to refit the bar without realignment later on rather than to secure the bar from coming loose.

Body mount bushes don't wear as such but will show some compression after time and will be unlikely to further compress. Realign the bar and slot the holes as needed.

And yes I do have half a clue when it comes to mechanical things...

Noted... Was'nt concerned about the 2 smaller ones. but for accuracy of the thread for others, as Andrew has stated, there are 10 mounts/points. Image below including part numbers

I will take a measurement at the front near the mount and post up a pic of the spot and perhaps a member with a later model 120 that hasn't done too many hard yards could take a similar measurement to see just how much my mount has compressed. I can then make the decision whether to replace the mounts or as you have suggested, elongate the holes...

Ok with a steel rule I measured the front mount placing the ruler up against the rubber and measured from the underneath where the body sits on the mount to the lip of the chassis mount that the rubber spacer sits in. The measurement is 36mm on the passenger side and just under 37mm on the drivers side. If someone has time and can access their mounts, a comparison would be appreciated... ( bullbar, dual batt, winch, spotties)

            Passenger side

            Drivers side

Ha! Anything more than standard and I won't get the Prado in the garage mj! I presently have 15mm clearance under the entry.

                  House lift too!

The dowels are recommended by ARB and others and while they may work in realignment of the bar my experience of over a generation of large plant is that you cannot use them to relocate something and get the alignments perfectly correct. The dowels take shear loading. While it is true that shear force is also taken by the bolted connections the coefficient of friction between painted and powder coated surfaces is generally very low, the bolts themselves should not be in shear only the dowels. So the dowels take bumps and vibrations which could allow the parts to move. If we dowel a large fan, for example something with a 15MW electric motor, when you remove the motor to do some work on the input shaft or fan itself the dowels and shims all the way through will be different and so a new hole is drilled to dowel each item. I am about to fit a winch to the 150 so I will see how well the dowels on my T3 line up the second time around.

On the bull bar mount are 4 bolts. The 3 circled are slotted (or elongated) and appear to be the adjustment bolts. These bolts are screwed into cage nuts which I will replace with HT Nuts and bolts as when these were tightened, they were within a poofteenth of stripping. The bolt that is arrowed, is what you describe as your "dowel". When all bolts were loosened, the bar would actually pivot on this bolt and allow for adjustment.

Craig I cannot comment on the Sahara bar as we only fitted ARB deluxe winch bars to the two utes. Once we were happy the bar was in the right place and gaps were even there was a single hole that existed on the mount each side that had to be drilled through the front of the chassis and then the fitted bolt installed. Sounds about right. Take that bolt out and see if it is a slotted hole and whether it looks as though it has been drilled on installation. If you drop the bar in my opinion you should redrill this assuming it no longer lines up. Try pm'ing David from ARB and see if he will send you the relevant page (s) from the installation paperwork. I have long binned what we had.

Sorry mjr but I disagree on this statement, a bolted joint should never be allowed to be in shear in normal operation. The frictional component of the joint when designed with sufficient bolts should be far in excess of the static or dynamic loads. Adding dowels only adds a level of insurance to the joint in the event of loss of tensile load.

                        IMHO

Found the Sahara Bar fitment pdf. As I mentioned, the 4th hole is for finalizing or 'dowelling" the fitment of the bar.

Unless I find that the Body mounts have compressed significantly, I will just elongate the 3 holes on each side and drill a new "dowelling hole" .

So if someone out there could please provide me a measurement as per post #20 http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post515048 it would be much appreciated!
