  • Beaudesert ,TaipanXP or Manta exhaust?

    Hi All,
Ive been looking in to changing my exhaust over on my 03 prado, reading up both the Beaudesert and TaipanXP systems look comparable, but would like to get some feedback from people running these setups before making my decision, how do they perform and how do they sound? Currently im running a D-tronic chip and it goes ok... for a deisel.

I dont mind loud as long as its not to droney, Beaudesert said they use only 1 muffler in there setup and can offer me a straight through section for extra so i can run with or without a muffler, as for the taipanXP it looks like they run a muffler and reasonator.

    Thanks,

    Mick

    Re: Beaudesert or TaipanXP exhaust?

    Mick,
I had a Beaudesert system installed about 4 months ago. I have their standard system with a single muffler. After fitting there wasn't any noticeable increase in exhaust noise inside the cabin. It definitely makes the vehicle easier to drive, as it will pull harder from lower revs and will also rev higher. I also run a DTronic and Unifilter air cleaner element.

I think for the money, you can't really go past the Beaudesert system, as it was around $400 cheaper than the Taipan system when I was looking.

    Cheers,
    Kevin

      Re: Beaudesert or TaipanXP exhaust?

mate i have also a beaudesert mandrel bent system...
i have also had fitted a 3 inch stainless dump pipe and my system is hi flow straight through with no muffler, but fitted a small hot dog.

the increased performance is awsome and with my D.P chip, has greatly improved performance and torque.in additon i have also added a boost controller and am running 15psi....that with a k&n filter she runs sweet and has a nice growl.

i had it on the dyno and tuned last week and am getting 90kw at the wheels with 265STT coopers and 520N.M torque at the wheels..
the standard specs are 97kw at the fly wheel and 369N.M torque....
so you can see the addition of the airflow ,chip and boost really make a dramatic difference and the turbo spools up a lot quicker..

      cheers Joey

        Re: Beaudesert or TaipanXP exhaust?

I also have a Beaudesert exhaust fitted and have had an excellent result (also have Unifilter, D-tronic, boost controller and ceramic coated dump pipe)

Both systems seem to share an identical dump pipes, so I'm guessing these are from a third party supplier.

Apart from TaipanXP's "Vortex" muffler the two systems are much of a muchness in terms of materials, bends and welding and overall build quality.

I wasn't convinced enough with Taipan's "Vortex" muffler to shell out the extra $$. I've been around hot cars long enough to be skeptical about how much the vortex muffler could do.... my guess is SFA in the real world performance gain.

          Mick
I have the Beaudesert exhaust and very happy with it, well made and good fit up. When I first put it on I couldn't notice much difference, but the more I drive
I think yes it does go better. At 80k it did drone a little, I put a stainless tip on, bent at about 45deg. down to the road now I don't notice the drone. haven't put the chip in, don't no that I will. The car seems to go well any way.
One other thing I put an extra mount from the gear box rear mount to the exhaust before the flex joint, to try and stop any possibility of the dump pipe cracking. Now when the exhaust vibrates it doesn't vibrate all the way up to the dump pipe, the flex joint does it's job. But Time will tell.

          Cheers Peter.

            Re: Beaudesert or TaipanXP exhaust?

Thanks for the replies, im leaning towards the beaudesert, but does anyone actualy have a taipanXP they can comment on?

I am also looking at uping the boost a little, how safe is it with the stock setup? is there any benefit from upgrading to a bigger intercooler as well?

Well i have ordered the Beaudesert exhaust with the HPC coating on the dump pipe and i also order the extra straight through pipe to remove the muffler if i want, i will see how i go with fitting it myself.

Has anyone seen or used an Advance Headers dump pipe for a 120? I came across them on their website while looking for headers for my Statesman.

Might give them a call when Im ready to purchase and see what they have to say.

                  Re: Beaudesert or TaipanXP exhaust?

                  Fitted the Beaudesert today...

All I can say is I am very surprised with the result. I think the exhaust systems they build are absolutely brilliant.

Like others pointed out - it can get slightly louder with the drone but it is very very minimal and bareable.

The power increase is instant. Pulls hard through all the gears and doesnt run out of puff like it used to.

I have no other mods fitted to the car yet - but as of tomorrow the D-Tronic will be on so hopefully the difference will be even bigger.

                  Cheers

Only takes 3-4 hours depending how rusty the nuts on the old one are

Most of the work is in changing the dump pipe... it's a PITA... helps if you're a dawrf.....wear riggers/mechanics gloves or you will bleed...

Beaudesert don't supply a dump pipe to turbo gasket. (They say you can re-use the old one).... It'll piss you off if it leaks and you have to remove the dump pipe again, so buy a new one from Toyota and do the job right the first time, they are not expensive.

3/4 socket set with extensions and universal joint will be handy to do the dump pipe.
Spray all nuts/studs with something like CRC the night before.

                        Mine took about 2hrs...

Very well built and is an excellent bolt on system. The hardest part was the dump pipe, and I havent exactly got the smallest hands so I got my mate who is a small bloke to undo all the dump pipe bolts. I changed the dump pipe gasket - no way in the world would I go through that hassle and leave a stone unturned. I aint taking that off again

                        All the best with yours.

I have been checking the exhuast size on the 2 systems - Beaudeserts is 2 3/4" while the Taipans is 3", how much diference in flow will there be between the 2 systems & is going up to 3" over the 2 3/4" system going to make much difference to power & exhuast gas tempretures :?:

I doubt there would be much noticable difference between 2.75in and 3in, its not like these are performance vehicles pumping out 2-300kw(we can only wish) thought i can see the need for more free flowing the the factory setup though.

Anyway, i had a go at removing the dump pipe, but i have no chance i just cant get my hands in close enough once i have the spanner on the nut(between the pipe and block) and all the nuts are super tight... short of removing the whole exhaust manifold i wont be getting it undone anytime soon so it looks like i have to resort to getting an exhaust shop to do it for me. I always do all my own work normally but i just dont have small enough hands in this case it seems.

Instead i install my safari snorkell and next weekend i should be installing my ARB sahara bar and 12000 pound winch

Try a 3/4 drive socket set.(1/2 is to big/ 1/4 is too small) With an extension, deep socket and universal joint/wobble bar you will have you hands out in the space between the fire wall and dump pipe, Much easier to work.

The nuts are very tight because they are a lock nut (The type were the top of the nut/last couple of threads are compressed)

Soak them well in CRC/Chemsearch or alike.
