  • The 2009 PradoPoint Get Together Experience Thread

    Hi All,

Well this is it, the time has finally arrived. The cars are packed the trailers are hitched, the kids are asking "Are we there yet!!!!" Some folks are already on their way and many others are just about to leave, so lets make this the thread for everyone to start posting their experiences in. That starts right from when you leave home to get here, while you are here and right up till you drive up your driveway when you get back home.

    Cheers

Well I suppose my GTG experience has officially started as I finished work today
Picking up the Sat phone and rental fridge tomorrow morning and I intend to spend the afternoon giving the car a good clean inside and out ready for the big trip.
This gives us saturday to spend packing up the camper, filling the jerries and sorting the final bits and pieces ready for the off 5am Sunday morning.

Also I got my new plates yesterday, so I'll be easy to spot

Re: The 2009 PradoPoint Get Together Experience Thread

Well it has come down to the final week before the GTG kicks off and I am both excited and a little scared at the same time. I am excited to see all this coming together and looking forward to meeting everyone and I am a little scared that it is all coming together and meeting everyone. I hope all the planning and preparation produces a great event, I don't think I could have done it any differently so I guess I should stop worrying on that count. Been a bit crook since Friday which has slowed me down a bit, hoping to shake this lurgy before Thursday. I have been organising stuff for the kick off day this weekend along with my daughters 7th birthday party yesterday, no mean feat in itself. My wife is excited about the whole event and she has been making us go around buying this and that for the camper.

I guess my GTG experience started nearly 18 months ago and I am finally getting near to the top of the iceberg.

Mav, you definitely should stop worrying and make sure your well and rested before the PP GTG kicks off. No-one would want to see you ill or worn out beforehand.

I am certain too of your efforts. I'm sure these will all be rewarded by the friendships, experiences and memories that this will give each of the attendees. Less than a week to go now. Can't wait either. Cheers. 8)

Mav, I think that you have done everything within your control to pull this all together and make it a fantastic event, now it is just up to each and everyone of us to make the most of whatever now lies ahead...

              See you all very soon,

You know I am a bit disappointed with the weather here as this is undoubtedly the warmest winter we have had for a long time. Unfortunately that means that the temps have not been cold enough to kill off the flies so if you have hat fly nets bring them with you. The temps this week are going to be back up in the mid 30's  we should be down in the low 20's maybe high teens this time of year.

                    Fly nets, Check.

And what about the weather, Any rain lately, and what does that do to the roadsand tracks, like Boggy hole etc?

And also I reckon you have done a sterling job of this, and all will be fantastic. Well done.

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

No significant rain in the past week, I am monitoring a large cloud mass coming across W.A. from the Indian ocean at the moment. There is the possibility that we may get some rain this coming weekend, currently my 5 day forecast is showing increasing cloud for Friday along with a sharp correction in daily high temps. Wednesday should be mid 30's and Friday should be high teens.

If the Finke River Gorge area were to receive significant rainfall then the water level would be closer to the surface and the likelihood for sinking would be greater in the Boggy Hole area. It is not called Boggy Hole for no reason.

Cheers for the vote of confidence.

It can't be said enough Mav - you've done an outstanding job putting this experience together - and "THANK YOU" simply can't express our appreciation enough.

Two more days of work and we hit the road - bound for Alice. See you all there
