Great to see the first pics coming through. Seems you're all having a ball - keep safe for the remainder of the GTG.
Remember to get a shot of the line up which would be appropriate for the PP.com header pic - I reckon that'd look great.
      Have a good one...or two...etc etc

Re: The 2009 PradoPoint Get Together Experience Thread

        Day 1

Saturday was the official kick off day for the GTG and it all started at Ross River. A lot of the attendees ended up getting to Alice a day or so early and some headed straight out to Ross River Resort and spent the extra day out there having a play on the tracks around the Resort.

Saturday night we had our 4th Of July BBQ in honour of our American attendees, we couldn't allow them not to celebrate their Independence Day now could we? So we decorated up the "Pig Bar" in red, white, and blue. Threw several dozen snags on the BBQ and Frank ran the bar with great aplomb. Thnks for a fantastic effort Frank it was much appreciated. After a good feed of chilli dogs and corn bread we rolled out the 4th Of July cake made special for the occasion by a very talented lady in Alice Springs who runs a new specialty cake business. Well the sparklers were lit and we played the USA national anthem and then it was on for young and old to scoff down the cake.

Sufficiently full the party adjourned to the main fire pit that had been expertly set alight by Zook and helpers. A roaring fire and with the assistance of our WA members the smores were soon being consumed.

As the night drew on and the senses became a bit dulled it was time to retire for the night as there was a big day ahead on Sunday.

        Day 2

We awoke to a spectacular sunrise on Sunday morning which heralded a fantastic day ahead for everyone.

Today was an early start that saw us all line up down at the start of the Arltunga access road also known as Binns Track. There were 26 starters for the day trip so we broke up into 3 teams, "A" Team went to the Arltunga reserve first to check out the old gold town ruins before heading out to Ruby Gap, "B" Team went straight out to Ruby Gap and came back via Arltunga, and "C" Team also went to Arltunga Reserve but staggered from "A"Teams arrival there so as not to cause too much conjestion. Overall I would call the day a big success and everyone had a great time, the track out to Ruby Gap is a mixture of high range and a bit of low range thrown in occasionally. Some rock & roll moments over the bumpier parts kept the smiles on faces, let alone the spectacular scenery that we passed through.

The "A" Team including "Team Thrifty"

After a long day on the trail some folks went out to N'Dhala Gorge before returning to the campgrounds, some people also went out to N'Dhala on Monday morning before heading into town.

At the end of this great day it was time to sit around campfires and share some good times with friends.

        Day 3

Today we had a bit of a sleep in and then broke camp to relocate to the Macdonnell Range Holiday Park, I think everyone would agree that this park is a real holiday destination in itself. The kids play area is just fantastic and keeps the kids busy for hours.

After setting up our campers etc it was off to do some essential shopping and laundry, some folks took the opportunity to visit the Desert Park and we ran a tag-a-long trip to Rainbow Valley. Overall I think it was a much needed lazy day for those that needed it.

Tonight ( Monday night) saw a group of hard core 4 wheelers accompany Zook on a night drive around the outskirts of Alice, whilst another group took a nocturnal tour of the Desert Park and yet another group went to dinner at the Overlanders Restaurant. We joined the group for the dinner at the Overlanders and our American members partook of a Darwin Stubby for starters. Many people tried the Drovers Blowout which allowed them to savour the delights of such creatures as crocodile, emu, kangaroo, amongst other things.

We had to retire early due to the little'ns being tuckered out so we left the main group to continue their dinner and drinks.

Well that is all for now, I will add more next time I can get to an internet connection but tomorrow we are off to Glen Helen Resort and to check out the gorges of the Western Macdonnell Ranges.

It was pretty cold here at the PP GTG in the Red Centre - only about 4-5 degrees Celcius this morning in Alice Springs when I was up at 7am to take our Prado in for its 20,000km service.

TOYOTA should be throwing in a few bucks with all of this Prado advertising!

Being American myself I was pleased to see the 4th of July celebration. After all it is the only day of the year Poms are in season  Just kidding but But the first thing that came to mind when you mentioned the anthem was in the movie "The Dish" and they played Hawaii Five's theme song

Great pics Mav and being a morning sunrise enthusiast all the better with the great clouds!

Alice Springs Desert Park Noctural Tour

A group of us attended the Alice Springs Desert Park Noctural Tour on Monday night.

Well, we saw Bilby's, an Echidna, Malas, Curlews, Bandicoots, and various other marsupials including a stick.

I think the moment of the night went to my 6yr old daughter when she exclaimed, "I can see something!". This stopped everyone in their tracks and had the guide turn the red light onto the spot my daughter was pointing to when she simply said, "Oh, maybe its just a rock". Had us in stitches.

The tour was very interesting and amazing to see these animals so close. Using a red light, it was as if we were invisible and the animals went about these business right in front of us. At times, they walked right up and past the group.

Towards the end of the tour our group became a little boisterous. Stelz certainly has a good sense of humour and was quite entertaining... in fact, towards the end I think our group was having too much fun!

After tiring out the tin lids, we stopped into MacDonalds for some dessert in the desert. A good night by all.
