Re: Sovereign bull bar fitting instructions

OK, so I've just picked up the new old bar, yes, it is a complete kit, BUT the wires for the indicators/parking lights has been cut at the back of the light itself.
Easy fix with new wires or best to replace both units?? For the price I paid for the bar, having to buy new lights is big deal..

The indicator light is a cheapy Narva item, im sure its p/n has been mentioned on here before. If you cant find it im sure a quick look in a narva catalogue would source some

Thanks speedcomm, I'll look into that.

Anyone have the fitting instructions for the sov bar?

EDIT -- I have found it in the online narva cattledog. Now, finding stock and pricing...

          Hi MDSimpson
Ive got a good set on my computer at work so i'll email you a set tomorrow.Like I mentioned earlier make sure the whole fitting kit is there including the chassis pins and the two side brackets, was reasonably easy to fit made easier by using a genie lift to hold it in position while lining every thing up on my own.

            Awesome, Thanks Wayne.
Yes, the kit seem complete, but if your instructions have an item list, I'd be able to confirm.

Re: Sovereign bull bar fitting instructions

The wiring is only connected to the lights by screws so I just replaced it with some trailer wire using the needed colours and taping up the rest. The lenses all go a milky colour soon after they are exposed to UV so if that's the only reason you see to replace I wouldn't bother unless the Narva ones have better lenses. If the black plastic have faded I used Tyre shine on it and they came back like new (suggested by the panelbeater I got the bar from). I used one of the POWERBALLs that Maguires make and the Maguires metal polish in the purple jar to polish up the bar.If your bar doesn't need a polish dont do it , the bars have a coating from the factory to prevent corosion and polishing will remove it, mine definitely needed a polish to remove some deep scratchs so some 1500 wet/dry and the maguires stuff did the trick. Not cheap $60 for the ball and $15 for the polish from Supercheap but the ball takes all the work out of polishing and the polish goes a long way.

Also don't cut the inner guard liners until the bar is in its final position, I found that mine didn't need to be cut at all they just slid in under the plastic trim.

Re: Sovereign bull bar fitting instructions

                  Instructions received, with many thanks.
It would seem I am missing one piece from the kit, the front fender liner retainers.... Does anyone know if this'll stop me fitting the bar? I've called our wanderful friends at Toyota only to be told, No stock, anywhere in the country.....

Also, The indicator/parking light assembly has been rewired with standard trailer wire as advised above... again, many thanks, saved time and money....

I don't suppose there are any members who may have some sovereign bar bits floating around in the shed???

Re: Sovereign bull bar fitting instructions

The front fender retainer is two pieces of plastic that fit between the inner liner and the bottom rear lip of the bar.
They stop any water splashing up into the air inlet. You can fit the bar without them then fit them after, be prepared for a shock two of them are over $80. I cheated and as I had a spare front bumper cut away the portion of the plastic bumper that fitted in that position leaving about 50 mm to spare. then I placed the cut out pieces into position and screwed them into their original mounts with the cut edge sitting on top of the bottom edge of the bullbar. Mark the edge of the bar along the plastic then remove and cut of at about 25mm out from the mark. Use a heat gun or a gas torch and gently heat the plastic until its soft then quickly bend the plastic back ( I did this by pushing it down on the concrete so the fold is square). By a bit of trial and error you can mould the plastic to the shape of the edge of the bullbar. I just used some small selftappers to screw plastic to edge of bullbar. A coat of black paint and you woudnt know .
I took photos as I went along fitting the bar

Re: Sovereign bull bar fitting instructions

I also knocked up a bash plate that picks up the two existing bolt holes at the front of the standard bash plate and is bolted up inside the bullbar using the two holes behind the numberplate where the winch rope comes out.

Re: Sovereign bull bar fitting instructions

Sparksy, very nice work. I love improvisation like this...
I called MANY MANY places yesterday looking for the correct plates, no one has anything, anywhere. I'll have another ring around today, to see if I can find a bumper bar, I only need the passenger side half. The plate I have is the drivers side, so my air intake is safe in this respect.

Also, Do you have the dimensions of the bash plate you made and what angles you had to bend? We have all the kit at work to make these (maybe not out of checkerplate), so if you can supply the details, I'll get a couple made.

Re: Sovereign bull bar fitting instructions

Did a quick measure up of plate.
The "wings" may have to be trimmed to clear the recovery points, I took the measurements off the spare one I made up. The one in the photos show how I had to trim the wings . I bent them up by hand after the final fitting of the bolt holes.
the front of the plate is bolted up through the two lower holes behind the numberplate. the back edge picks up the two unused threaded holes at the front of the existing plate, I marked them by holding the plate in place and used a sharpened bent welding rod to mark through the top of the holes. Two of the bolts that held the bumper on were perfect as they already had a large washer fitted.

I ended up buying the bolt kit from Yota too, item number listed on the installation instructions. 'Fitting Kit' is what you may need. I was unsure I had the complete set of bolts to install, glad I bought them too...
