Can you post a PIC of the sahara bar on the KAka. I cna't make up my mind between the Deluxe or the Sahara. Is it the winch box that is causing the front camera to give you the great view of the bar!!!

      Re: Kakadu's camera's

I have had the ARB Combination bar fitted along with a pair of driving lights and now only see the back of the lights and the bar with the front camera.
I tried to make my own housing to relocate the camera to the front of the bar which went well with a Junction box from JCar electronics. However, like all plans there was a stumbling block, the fitted electrical cable for the camera is too short. As the original cable is water resistant I wanted to maintain this and not just cut and extend the original cables, so I asked my local Toyo dealer about a cable extension. To my suprise the Parts manager stated that they have a prototype mounting box and cable set made and are awaiting trials reports and subsequent approval so they can then supply them as an after market part. His reason was that the negative effect on the front camera performance is costing them too much money on the loss of sales of factory fitted bars, specifically on the Kakadu range.
Apparently it is about a month away from approval and release, but as I said to them I will believe it when I see it

        Re: Kakadu's camera's

Thanks for that info Kaka do. I think the negative effect on the sales of factory fitted bars would have to be looks and that darn Luxury Car Tax (just checked the definition of Luxury - possession and use of costly choice things for enjoyment; enjoyable but not necessary thing" I thouigh a Bar on the front of the Prado would be an absolute necessity!!!!
Can you share with me any reason you did not go for the Saraha as recommended. Is the shadowing an issue with the combination bar? I realise that the deluxe bar will give more protection to the wings. Did you have to beef up the suspension? I see that you are in Perth. Who put the bar on or did you DIY?

          Re: Kakadu's camera's

KJA, I went with the combination bar as I wanted the extra protection for the lights, I have broken one in the past, due to a bump in a car park of all things. So I figured that the HID lights would be more expensive and wanted them protected. This bar also gives me the option of adding bush bars later on if I want to. Still thinking about that.

Yes the shadowing is an issue, but I have gotten used to it as it only effects the side vision and not on the actual road in front. On open roads I use the fog and Spot lights which covers the shadowed areas very well. For me its not an issue at all.

I had it installed at the ARB dealer in Rockingham and service was very good. The only issue was some vibrations due to a loose bolt, I thought it was really funny that the mechanic swears he tightened up all the bolts and used threadloc. Strange that it hasn't come loose again.

As for the suspension I haven't upgraded yet as I am trying to find a lift kit all round, ARB wont touch the Kakadu due to the self levelling and KDSS, so I am still looking. I havent noticed any problems with the front end on or off road except the sump gaurd collects the mud or sand like a shovel.
          Hope this helps

              Re: Kakadu's camera's

Just as a digression, I wonder whether the camera in the Kakadu can work under water....

It could make it a good "fish finder" like the one used in the Discovery 4....

Here's a picture of the front camera from a Discovery 4's dashboard:

Takes the vehicle to a new level for the fishermen who buy these 4x4s!

Well just had the 10K service and asked about the camera Mod kit. No suprise that it's still not available and could be up to 12 months away. :x Not happy, but not suprised

                  sorry for the delay

hers some pics of the camera we worked out with ARB it works well now mounted forward on the bar, a mate made the small box out of stainless, had powdercoated with driving lights to match all sweet, the guys at ARB extended the camera cables without an issue with removable plugs (incase the bar needs to come of at some stage) really neat job all round
