    Re: Third row seat modification

I removed the third row, took about 20 minutes and about 50(+) kgs. The space is a big rectangle and I am in the process of building my draw and fridge slide. Will try to post some photo's when I am done.

The reason for the compliance amendment is to do with the number of bums on seats which the vehicle can now carry or in this case two less than what the existing compliance plate specifies.

        Hi Nifty

I am currently talking to Jim Best from Best Off Road and he has a 150 series from Ironman coming in to measure for drawers with the seats out. The plan is to build a false floor which the drawer unit then bolts to so removal is quick and then leaves the false floor in place to use as a regular wagon. I am talking to Jim about not having drawers but flat sildes that I can put boxes on to remove when not required, similar to the Boab system.

          Re: Third row seat modification

In the picture above, it appears as though the floor of the GX actually sits lower than the GXL (with its 3rd row of seats). I asked the dealer if the floor height was any different between the GX and the GXL and was told no, they were the same.

Can anyone please confirm this? Is the dealer incorrect?

          Cheers!

Not sure how this works with the 120 as the rear seat are removable, must be that they are designed to be easily removed!!

How does this compliance issue work with the 120 when it take 20 sec to unclip and remove the 3rd row seats

Also apart from the obvious weight saving wouldn't removing the 3rd row seats in a 150 be a waste of time. I mean the extra space you claw back is wasted space anyway as the actual drawer (not the carcus) is not removable unless you want to remove all of the gear in the drawer, then remove the drawer from the frame then lift up a panel to access the under drawer area. And this is only if the design allows for false panels under removable drawers and not a solid base.

                Hi Richoson,

Your post didn't come through, just the quote.

And can anyone answer my Q? Is the rear boot floor actually lower in the GX than the GXL?

                Cheers!

                  cbm8880,

on page one of this thread is a pic of a GX compare that to the GXL pic on page two and it is pretty clear that the floor in the cargo area is lower in a GX. The salesman was wrong.

I have read this discussion topic and a little confused as to if anyone had had success with removing the rear seats? If anyone has done this and knows about this lets know as would be very much apreciated.. Otherwise its out with the tools and experiment time.. any suggestions!!

Try this link, can't remember who posted it but I found it on pp. It's the toyo manual for the towbar wiring, which includes removing panels, seats etc.

                        Hi Folks

Have a look at the drawers(on this site) done by Listed (Peter), Best Off Road (Jim), they remove the seats and ABR (Derek) puts his on top of the seats. If you remove the seats you will need to put a false floor of approximately 40mm. I am going with Jim Best from Best Off Road.

                        Regards, Richo.

                            Re: Third row seat modification

I removed the third row, welded a frame and bolted this using the third row bolts, fitted an alloy draw and fridge slide. At least the dog likes it.

Cut some timber to shape, glued carpet over the wood and inside the draw. I also fitted carpet underlay and carpet under the draw / fridge slide to reduce road noise/heat which worked very well.

                            Beagle is optional extra.

Waeco slide but 40 litre Autofridge (eutectic).

                            Nifty.

In my opinion what a huge disappointment with the fold down rear seats and loss of already limited rear cargo space and not so much as a priory but still a backward step fuel capacity. If we were to lose fuel load i would have like to trade it of for spare tyre under car and a better design rear door but not fold down rear seats and loss of cargo space! Okay so we can't get our fuel back but any thoughts on getting our rear cargo space back. I'm sure there are people out there who like the fold down rear seats? but for my set up i like the old LC120 style removable seats. put them in if needed but 99.99999999999999% of time i had a lifestyle rack fitted in back where seats pivoted. This is great for separating cargo space in using space up high in an organised way. e.g. i have a 40l engle that lives in the back and can have a golf bag fit under the rack. Hope we can un bolt third row seats completely and lifestyleracks.com.au or someone else can design a rack system or fold up false floor?

                              Cheers

Hi guys, it's been 17 months since i started this thread and i still haven't heard of anyone installing a rack system yet, only draws? I'm assuming i'm the only one here that loves the lifestyle rack design? I wonder if i could retro fit the one out of the LC120? I still own the 08 GXL but my new lease runs out in September.

Go into a Toyota dealership and have a look at the space, I'm certain you could make it work, I guess it just depends how handy you are.
