      Re: Foxclan's 2003 GXL V6

top write up foxclan, but 1 little thing, i didnt see a winch cradle mounted behind the bar, and please dont tell me you have or going to snatch off the mount, because if you do the bullbar will end up like a coke can that has been crushed, these bars have bugger all if no structural strength, i would hate to see you do damage to your prado or hurt anyone in the process if the mount plate pulls out of the bar, correct me if im wrong. cheers samo

        Re: Foxclan's 2003 GXL V6

        Matt,Samo thanks for the pointers.
I have seen the winch cradle, it has the round tubing with flattened end that connect it to the chassis.
I guess it allows it to crumple for air bag activation while giving strength during the pull.
        Cheers Troy

Pradopoint members have been a great inspiration.
The front recovery lug would certainly bench test to some high tonnage, I lift from lugs like this on a daily basis.
Its mounting to the Sovereign Bull bar however has been on My mind, With thoughts of how to achieve a pull from the chassis without compromising the air bag system.
We have also field tested it, pulling out Mallee trees with a drag chain to clear fire tracks on My Sisters property. The Hugs and Kisses was at the wheel with Me hooking up the trees.
Not a recovery situation I know, But no elasticity in the drag chain either.
            Back to the drawing board.

Re: Foxclan's 2003 GXL V6 (Rhino Heavy Duty Racks)

Sourced what must have been one of the last Toyota 3 bar heavy duty roof rack kits in Adelaide on Friday.
After calling a couple of dealers parts departments, I located a set on Main North road that had them in stock.
Other dealers I called told me that they had not stocked them for six months and where not available as a Toyota part.

              All the parts.

OEM bolts removed and gutter cleaned.

Front Right pad mount, O-ring seals over plastic tubes.

Underside of pad mount, M8 x 50mm SS button head screw, spring & flat washers O-ring seal.

LHS. pad mounts fitted, from rear.

              From the front.

              Cross bars fitted

Would have liked to add some sealant around the plastic tubes for added waterproofing.
I think it was AMTS (Andrew) that had posted a suggestion to use a low ph or low acid silicon, must search this again and buy some.
                  Cheers Troy

Re: Foxclan's 2003 GXL V6 (ARB Awning + Shovel Holder)

Well after the roof bars went on, the Mother inlaw wanted to give us a family gift for Christmas that we could all use.
The Wife suggested that one of those ARB awnings like sapradogxl had on Goolwa beach would be the ideal item for her to give us. Thanks Dave!
So then to mount it to the Rhino heavy duty bars, mmm! ah Pradopoint to the rescue.

A quick search found a couple of options, but the one I liked the most was the adaptation of the Fox wing awning mounting bracket.
As per the post, I drilled a hole in the bracket to fit the top slot of the awning extrusion.

I could have cut the excess bracket off but found that my Quick fist clamps sat nicely above the awning bag when bolted through the original bolt hole, I use these to mount the dune flag or surf rod.

Awning set up on Goolwa beach with wifee relaxing.

Prado also got a rear dust deflector, seems to improve rear window vision on higher speed gravel roads. Slower off road driving is the same as one would expect.
I made some shovel holder brackets to mount Brodies shovel.

Used 40mm x 3mm square zinc washers and some gal pipe I had in the steel rack(2 sizes), bolted with M8 S/S cap bolts with M8 unistrut plate nuts. Welded on some nuts to the tube and picked up some M8 Tee handles.

I had some other items going through the powder coaters so just got these done at the same time .

Happy with the finished product, very solid mounting and Brodie is pleased.

Nicely done Troy. Gotta be happy with that.

                      Edit:
How does the rear deflector fit on?

                          Re: Foxclan's 2003 GXL V6

                          Thanks Andrew and Dave.
We have found the racks so versatile and I really don't mind adding the awning when needed. Its as simple as turning four bolts and its mounted, when not in use its in storage out of the elements. I also picked up one of the ARB mozzie nets for the awning, this comes in its own storage bag, but have not yet had it out to play. I will take some pics when we do.

The rear dust guard was a bit of a pain to fit. All the Toyota instructions are plain enough and PP has some post on fitment. Basically held on with 3M double sided foam tape and spring steel clips, with protection stick-ons for the paint work. The perspex is not moulded totally to the contour of the door (type of springy on the ends) so I clamped it over-night at the point of the foam tapes. The guard has not budged and even in the heat things look all good.
                          Cheers Troy

Really neat job you have done Foxclan.
Where did you source/acquire the slotted radiator protection plate? It is one neat piece of equipment.
                            Keep up the good work.

                              Thanks VK
I was after some slotted or perforated material to allow air flow while protecting the cores. This piece was in the scrap steel bin at work, I think it was a guard off of some machine. I would like it to be heavier gauge and to have side wings to completely cover the ends of the cores.
Maybe when the Toyota "foil" under body pan needs replacement.
                              Regards Troy

Looks good Troy. You've certainly raised the bar on the custom shovel mounts. I need to sort something like this out..
Still not sure whether to replace the factory rails though.
