Oh ye of little faith!! I have every confidence that my rumblings will result in a positive outcome. After all this is definitely a safety issue! This line in her response in particular was encouraging :

They have advised that they are currently investigating this matter and are hoping to introduce this accessory to our range in the future.

The lady did however appear a tad miffed that I had the temerity to suggest that they could perhaps supply me with a free set of the deck hooks to alleviate the severe disappoinment I have suffered.

Another option from Rhinorack is the eye nuts for the Aero and Sportz bar.

I don't know the dimensions of the square plate but you can either ring up Rhino and get them to check or drop into your local roofrack specialist and get them to try one out.

Having not seen the tracks in question have you checked out the nissan system as their add on's may fit. Didn't the colorado come out with some sort of track system as an option as well. Just thoughts and ramblings may help

Hi Geoff,

I discovered yesterday that the M8 channel nuts are thinner than the M10 channel nuts I originally took to Toyota to try out. It should present less of an interference issue with the bolt heads already in the channel. The M8 channel nut and M8 eyebolt might be a goer for you.

Got the same word from local Toyota dealer that these luggage hooks unavailable in Australia.

I own a BMW X5 (wife's drive, current series) and have just purchased a Kakadu for myself. The X5 luggage hooks fit the Kakadu perfectly, and have a locking system where you can tell that they have 'locked in place' and wont slide around. My rough measurements of the 'tracks' in both the BMW X5 and the new 150 Series Prado yielded same dimensions.

Not cheap though at $65 each from local BMW dealer, but they did have them in stock so saved a lot of time wasting.......

From what I can see, a reason why Toyota may not include them is that the way the rear seat fold up and down under electric power, the Luggage Hooks can interfere with the way the seats come out of the floor to full upright position. Its simply a matter of watching whats happening and moving the flap with your hand. If you install Luggage Hooks you will see what I mean.......

Thanks HG .... I'd be interested in seeing some pics of them if you ever have the time and the inclination. I couldn't find them on the BMW website ..... only the "adaptive luggage securing system" which is somewhat different to what I envisaged the Toyota hooks were.

I bought some bolts yesterday for my VX that fit perfectly. They are Rhino eye bolts, $24.00 a pair from the Rhino Rack system. Hope this helps. :P

Are they 8mm eye bolts? If so do you have the part number?

The part number is OLS037 with lifetime warranty. Yes, they are 8mm and you could try checking out the website for any extra information. http://www.rhinorack.com :wink:

I got my Kakadu two days ago and found it was impossible to tie things down. A serious safety issue, especially when, as I have now discovered, the Deck Hooks may not come to Australia.
I think they should supply four free of charge to every Kakadu owner in Australia to clearly show that they are serious about safety.
I'll be having a go through my dealer.

I haven't done anything yet. I sent an email to Toyota today and got the usual non committal reply as follows:

"Dear Mr. Chandler,

At this stage, we have not released any deck hooks for the Prado models in
question.

I might go with the BMW hooks mentioned above. I think Toyota'a attitude to this is p*ss poor to say the least.
