Re: Luggage hooks for VX and Kakadu

I used Unistrut nuts with eye bolts.

Unistrut is commonly used by electrical and mechanical services trades, many electrical wholsalers sell the nuts.

They are available in different thread sizes to suit what you need.

Not a perfect fit, but better than nothing and relatively cheap.

i have been pursuing the tie-down hooks issue with Toyota in U.K. and got nowhere. Here is the reply from Toyota Australia:

      "Dear Keith
Thank you for your update. We have been investigating this further for you and confirm that at this stage Toyota do not have genuine deck hooks available for your vehicle. We unfortunately do not have plans on releasing these as a genuine product.
Please accept our sincere apology for the disappointment you have expressed and we will be passing on your interest and complaint in relation to the deck hooks to our product development team.

      Thank you & Kind Regards

Re: Luggage hooks for VX and Kakadu

        Hi Guys,
Don't know if anyone is still interested, but my local Toyota dealership got a genuine Toyota cargo hook in today and I tried it in the Kakadu. Can't remember the exact words but the parts guy said the item is described as a cargo net hook which threw him off originally. Its a neat bit of gear that slides into the rail and locks into place, you then depress a button on top to unlock and slide out.....Wait for it.... recommended retail $77.00 x 4 = $308.00..... In one of the previous posts, the BMW X5 unit is actually $12.00 cheaper...

Re: Luggage deck hooks eyes rings for VX and Kakadu

I found that I prefer six luggage deck hooks/eyes/rings to effectively secure an ice box and a refrigerator. Not absolutely necessary; four will suffice but six is better. I sourced the extra two from Pelican Parts in the U.S.A. The exchange rate is good at the moment $AUD ---> $US
          http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/index.htm

2 off 51-47-7-146-024-BOE Genuine BMW Part: Securing Rings, Brand (ex Ontario) cost me $US87.75.
At the time of purchase it was converted to $AUD89.71.
The overseas bank transaction fee was $AUD1.79
          Total = $AUD91.50

          $AUD45.75 each ring/eye.

Just a wait of about two weeks for the packing and shipping.

I am grateful to HarleyGuy (previous posting) on this issue. It helped me so much. The Toyota dealers do not have a clue why the rails are in the back of the VX or Kakadu.

The cargo net hooks are the small plastic hooks just inside the entrance to the cargo area on either side ... these come as standard with the vehicle and are not related to the deck hooks. It looks like Toyota Australia have finally woken up and decided to stock them, but at $77 each doubt if they will get many takers...... but I might be tempted!

I bought some Rhino Sportz M8 eye nuts ($18 for a pair) and some round washers from Bunnings (~$3.60 for 18, zinc plated).
With two washers per eye nut, one above and one bellow the channel, it seems to fit very well.

The cleats on either side of the rear door can be utilised along with two luggage rail eyes (lower anchorage point) with a net. Buy the net for a Captiva from a Holden dealer. The cleats are useless on their own.
These look great Are the photos the ones bought from Pelican parts :?: Also, is the small square a button for releasing so they will slide out of the tracks :?:

                    Slip n Away,

Four are from Classic Autos a BMW Dealer here in Perth, Two are from Pelican Parts, USA.

I initially bought four then found that the rails will allow a middle pair. The button on the eye is for releasing it for removal. When you insert the eye into the rail it clicks (locks) into place. The eye lays flat when not in use (not spring loaded).

I use the left side eye near the 2nd row seat to strap a fire extinguisher down. I am paranoid about fire and all my vehicles have a fire extinguisher. I just don't want to drill any holes in a $100,000 vehicle.

Agree! Can't really understand why they are not standard equipment :?

I hassled the Parts Section of a Toyota Dealership for the part number of the genuine Toyota luggage eyes that cost $77 and are supposedly available. I thought that I would share the part number with you all. No such listing and they searched very hard on their computer using all sorts of key words. There is no genuine Toyota part. Trust me. Go for the BMW part.

                              Thanks for your input guys.

I'm obviously too simple to work out how to order them - I'm putting the genuine BMW part number in the search box on the Pelican site and it's not coming up with anything.

Can someone please help with a link to the actual product page?

                              Thanks

The site isn't too clear but it does work, I've got 6 on the way, $204 delivered to Brisbane.
