    Re: 150 rear drawers

    Hi Stewy
    Thanks for that.
I probably will end up covering over the end of the mouldings as it will just annoy me not done but I'm only putting these drawers in when we go away and put the rear seats back for the rest of the time. You can see the room in the photo below. There is still 200mm above my 40ltr engel to the edge of the door opening.

      Re: 150 rear drawers

Looks great, I am not that handy so am having a set of Black Widow drawers, as well as their cargo barrier, centre barrier and storage bay at the top installed (May), I am cheating with my signature as they haven't actually gone in yet but considering I have paid for them I am counting them in, I hope they will be great, obviously much more expensive that DYO but as I say I am not that handy, plus with my own business I can probably earn more at work than I would be trying to do this myself.

You can see all the details on the Black Widow website here

Hi Lissted, how hard was it to remove the fold down seat unit? Any damage caused when this occured? Certainly the way to go when fitting drawers in a 150. Can't use the seats but might as well use the space.

            Re: 150 rear drawers

            Hi
Removing the seats was really quite easy once you see how it was held together. Took a while the first time but will be fine now. There was no damage to anything by getting them out. Just took my time to make sure it didn't happen!! All the panels are just held with clips and the rear seats have 4 bolts in each. This is where I bolted the drawers down to. I thought of putting them on top of the rear seats but the front two tie down points are only into the panel over the folded saets not the body. The rear points are into a bracket though. Didn't think this would be strong enough. I read a thread on PP 150 series(can't now remember which it was, sorry who's thread it is) and they put the link to this site, http://www.toyota-tech.eu/Aim.aspx?menuitem=2 Click on the search AIM botton, then "Vehcile" click LC150, "Catagory" intallation manual, then "Accessory Group" down to Towing Hitch wiring Kit, then just pick the top one. This shows the info on pulling out the rear seats. Pics of the drawers bolted in below.
            Thanks

              Hi all
First of all nice set up lissted are you willing to make another one up and sell it to me? I would make up my own but I live in a one bedroom unit
I have just been to the super show and found the drawers very pricey the black widow set up is the superior setup its got the fridge slide incorporated into the top of it but at $2480 thats big bucks.
ORS drawers are $1490 for galvanised weight 53kgs and $1740 for aluminium 37.5kgs
And Caddy will have there system out in a couple of months all systems are with the 3rd row of seats removed.
Guy at show said do not worry about the added weight of draws to your prado because he recons the 3rd row of seats weigh in at about 40kgs I have not taken delivery of my prado yet so can confirm 40kgs does seem like alot

                Hi Graphite bullet
I just had to move my seats today and I threw them on the scales, curious myself once I read your question, and each seat weighs 20.5kg. So both seats, thin metal subframe, false floor, trim and retractable cover would be over 45kg. I weighed my drawer before I put them in and with all materials it was 51kg, so 6kg load increase for that much storage, GREAT!!
                Thanks

i went to the supershow set on buying the ORS system for the Prado. The first thing i did was pull the drawer out, and shook it left to right. the whole thing twisted on the drawer runner. i can only imagine what would happen with some weight in it and driving down corrugations. i did the same thing to the blackwidow system and the whole truck shook instead of the drawers.

i paid $2900 fitted for mine. this included a fridge slide, and cargo barrier.

the same price for the ORS system was - $1490 + $330 (fridge slide) + $150 - extra drawer runners (needed in my opinion) + $550 (cargo Barrier) + $220 fitting = $2740 - only $160 difference and i think the blackwidow is better quality.. ahh well, that was how i got it past the minister of war and finance anyway

                      Re: 150 rear drawers

                      Prado 150 with storage system.

I removed the dickie seats, saved a heap or room and got rid of 55kgs of weight.

My brother welded a frame, I purchased an alloy draw in a box and a fridge slide, fitted these to the frame, a bit of timber and carpet work and the below photos show the finished product.

The whole lot weighed in at about the same as the dickie seats.

The draw is 500mm wide, 1000mm long and 250mm high. I had to mod the back by giving it a slant so the seats could fit snugly against the back of the draw. To finish the job I fitted carpet and underlay which reduced road noise and made for a smart look.

                      Regards,

                      Nifty.

                      Even the beagle liked it....

I have had a few enquiries looking at where I got the alloy draw in a box from. I purchased a 540*1030*220 Aluminium draw from:

                      OffRoad Systems
                      14 Orielton Rd
                      Smeaton Grange
                      N.S.W 2567
                      Ph: (02) 4647 6322
                      Fax: (02) 4647 6315

                      [email protected]

I glued the carpet inside the draw as can be seen with the beagle in my previous post. I also had to modify the draw to allow the rear seat (middle row) to fit by cutting the corner out of the draw. From memory I needed to remove about 50mm on the top and about 75mm from the bottom of the back of the box and draw where it is in contact with the back seat. this made for a very nice snug fit. Hope the attached photo helps. This mod to the draw did not interfere with the slide mechanism.

                      Nifty.

I made some enquiries for a wedge design drawer system to level the floor out but was quoted $1400.00 + freight and decided to make my own. Cost $400.00

The weight of the drawers, fridge and recovery gear has also leveled out the suspension nicely.

Here are the photo's, I am just waiting on the stainless steel latches to arrive so I can finish them off.

                        hey derek,

can i ask, what size ply did you use for the frame and the drawers?

also, what are your draw slides rated to hold? and how long are they?

                        cheers,

Hi guys, Ive just ordered a custom twin drawer set from DRIFTA (http://drifta.com.au/setD2D.php)for the back of the Prado. I will be adding a wing kit to it to fill in the space between the drawers and the side of the car.

Just wondering what the easiest and best way to scribe the template is for wings (to match the contour of the trim) is? Any tips? Listed, you seem to have done a very nice job of your wings. What's the secret?

                          Cheers, Sam.

Sam - did you get the rubber cargo mat? if so you could trace the outer edge along a section of cardboard.

i've just done this for my father-in-laws drawers we built on the weekend in his 150 and it worked wonderfully.
