    Hi guys,

would it be possible to run a new wire from a 2nd battery to the inverter so it can be used while the vehicles not running?

Yes, I have done exactly that on my car. Now I can use the 240 outlet at any time.

Prado 150 - Toyota inverter conversion kit

I presume everyone is aware that for those who would like a simple 12 volt socket in the back, in place of the 220 volt unit, Toyota sell the parts for A$121.00. The 12 volt parts replace the 220 volt panel and the 12 volt wiring is already in place behind the 220 volt socket, so it is plug and play. Therefore there is no need to remove the side trim panel, the changeover can be easily carried out by simply prising out the 220 volt panel.

Obviously the 12 volt socket remains at 10 amps as per the factory wiring but this is ample if you just want to run a fridge more reliably. I have converetd my Kakadu and it works perfectly.

The parts needed will come from Japan (mine took only two weeks) and are Bezel Part Number 8553660040A0, Power outlet cover Part Number 8553535080A0 and Socket Part Number 8553042010. These are the part numbers for the tan trim, the A becomes B in the first two items for the grey trim.

Just thought I would note this in case anyone is not aware.

So where did you hook in to it ? Been thinking of doing this for a while. Only downside is all my aux wiring is down the passenger side. Can I hook in closer to the front ie fuse box ?

On another point, any travel with the 240v usually results in the plug falling out.

on an older thread about the factory invertor, some people were using it to power their fridges and causing the invertor to fail, cant remember which thread it was.

I ran a heavy gauge wire down the passenger side to a fuse box in the rear compartment. It then went to the trouble of running a new separately fused wire to the factory inverter.

I guess you could find the location in the fuse box and re-route the power to it from a different source, but it gets a bit awkward finding that under the dash.

With regard to the plug falling out... I run a short 1mtr extension cord the accessory being powered. The light weight of the extension cord plug hasn't yet fallen out of the socket while driving.

Have found this site full of useful info so will add my bit as well.

Followed the info about buying the Toyota parts to change the 220v plug (from factory inverter) to a 12 v plug on my new GX. The 12v wire and plug were taped up out of reach thru the small panel opening so had to open the side panel along top and rear to access. Then tapped up 220v plug to stop potential rattle and now have original looking 12 v sig outlet. Waeco 25 litre fridge works on this OK as it did in similar setup in my previous 120 series.

However I will be running new separate thicker cable back to battery via chassis rail and merit plug in this little panel while I have panel off for potential fridge upgrade. This new cable, plug and "black box" was purchased a while ago when I bought a thumper/blue apple battery.

Am wondering whether I can use the inverter in the 150 GXL for charging the battery on the laptop. It has enough output but I assume the inverter is only a modified wave unit. Don't seem to be able to find out if that is the case. Does anyone know?

I have charged mine ok, but laptop not running at the same time. If the powerpack doesn`t make any strange noises should be ok.
My Powerpack has a rating of 9.5A and 19 v dc, which is above what the inverter can deliver, but seems ok with it turned off.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

                          Hi there

not sure if this thread is still active, but here goes ...

Is there enough room behind the inverter panel to fit a flush-mounted 12v socket? I'm getting a dual-battery system fitted shortly and want to run through to the back. have been looking at flush-mounted Engel or Merit sockets by Baintech.

                          Thanks

Not sure if this will get a response but here goes - does anyone know if the inverter is switched with the ignition? People talk about using fridges off it, which implies that it is running all the time - but even with no load on it won't that put a parasitic load on the battery and flatten it over time?
