  • Reputable Servicing in Perth

    Hi All
Have just had the Prado serviced ( 50,00kms ) from a well known dealer from where we bought the vehicle from just over 6 months ago. I phoned around to get a few prices knowing the dealers are usually more expensive but felt a little more comfortable knowing that the previous owner had returned the car from the place of purchase since new to get it serviced there also. What I found out after making a few enquies through the service dept was the vehicle, when purchased at 42,000km, had only recieved an oil and filter change on the 40,000km service ???? This was a stipulated condition of sale when the golden handshake had long been forgotten. I had owned a Hilux (sorry) previously and almost fell over when picking the vehicle up from a 40,000km sevice to the tune of $700 ( this was almost 10 yrs ago) so this was my reasoning behind screwing the salesmans arm a little further. The vehicle is still under NCW and I hope this has no future impact if (touch wood) something has to be returned to the dealer for repair!!! So to cut along story short... has any one in the Perth area had good dealings with any service providers that have an intrerest and genuine concern in approved log book servicing?? NOR would be more convenient but not essential
    Thanks
    Vossy

Vossy can you name and shame the dealership for all of us who live in Perth.

I've only had once service done so far by Scarborough Toyota and wasn't happy with it. Whole engine bay splashed with used oil, car dirty inside etc basically no attention made to detail.

Dealers are crap - IMHO. They lure you in, making you believe you need to go through them to keep any warranty. Its crap.

I've been with the same mechanic for 8 years and couldn't be happier. He is SOR though, but is a Toyota specialist. Family owned and run business, and you speak to the person who has worked on your car. Personally I find that when dealing with small business them value my business more so than the local dealer would. I have recommended him to many family and friends, all who walk away with the same opinion.

The only 'downside' is that you may have to wait a lil longer before you book in your car, but that doesn't bother me.

I'm not stingey on cost, as I prefer to know that when I am miles from home that he has done all the checks.

      My 2 cents.

              Rhodeside Autotune in Willetton.

The main mechanic is Leith Rhodes.

The only catch is to get in early because after being in business for 25 years, they are finally taking some well deserved long service leave later this year, hence they are closing up shop for a few months. I think this begins in July or something.

Thanks champ for the info...lets just say they are on the corner of Leach Hwy ( no namess!!! ) in that suburb!!! I have got another dealer to quote on the same service "lets just say they used to have a BIG ROCK in the yard" and the sevice was almost double for the same kms??? I dont understand why this should be so different seeing as though they can provide a sevice guarantee on new purchased vehicles for $180 even the 200 series crusier. Its the little things that you appreciate though. I recall a tyre shine, handbrake tension, squirt of armorall and a report on things that you may need to consider in the next service were standard...sound like a whinging old man but when did this become an option...
Appreciate your feedback. Good to see there are a few clued up worthwile Prado drivers in the great state

Just noticed the list of add-ons,
How long have had the Kings/Blisten in for? are you happy with the ride? are they adj/ softer/harder than std? and finally where did you get them from..and sorry... what was the damage...need to get them approved by the finace dept rather than just wishing for them
                  Cheers

                    Re: Reputable Servicing in Perth

                    Hey Vossy,

Sorry for the late reply - have been away from a computer for a while. I've had the bilsteins/kings in for a while now (about a year) after I reaplced the whole lot when I found one of my front struts was leaking.

I originally had the std height king springs in and only recently (2 months ago) I chucked in the non HD raised ones and find these quite reasonable. If anyone wants to purchase some std height king springs, PM me and we can negotiate.

With the king springs compared to original springs the ride is noticeably firmer when not loaded up but still comfortable, but once you have some gear in, it improves much better. I bought the Prado for road trips when loaded up, so the suspension compliments this. I haven't had my Prado since new so keep in mind simply putting in new suspension is likely to firm up the ride.

The bilstein front struts are adjustable via way of a three setting circlip which allows you to compensate for any weight up the front (bullbar, winch, dual batts). Personally I have a steel ARB deluxe bar (non winch) and dual batts and have found the middle setting suitable to compensate for the weight. There is more info elsewhere about this (search bilstein).

Unfortunately I can't compare to other brands, but after reading what others have said on here, I'm happy as a pig in... Other setups I considered would either be the Auto-Craft setup, or OME.

Price, I think it was about $2000, which included parts, fitting by my mechanic, and wheel alignment.

                        Hi Guys,
I am in Perth and looking for a reliable mechanic for my 55,000k service. One name has been mentioned here as being good but may be on long service leave? If there are any other Perthites who've had a good service experience, particularly with the D4D diesel, I would love to hear some recommendations. I have used Robson Brothers out in East Vic Park who are very good but a long way from where I live. Anybody know anyone in the western suburbs?

                            Hi Guys,
Just though I would bump this one for a good value for money servicing NOR or western suburbs in Perth ?
My prado 120 will need a service first thing once I drive it back across from the eastern states.
Need to confirm the date for service in the next day or two as my timeframes once back in WA to heading north again are pretty fine.
It was Toyota serviced approx. 1000km before I purchased it so will do an oil change before hitting the Nullarbor, but just want to make sure I can get a good quality full once over mechanical upon back in Perth.
Out of warranty so I'm happy to not be Toyota but just want someone who knows their prado's so I can be confident in knowing that the truck is mechanically sound.
                            Cheers Prado Pointer's
