Hey Rob , just fitted a ScanGauge to my 2012 D4D and got this Xgauge to work :

      Hilux ATF Temp 07E121D9 032180000000 1810 0003004DFE70

It shows temp with 1 decimal place ( up to 99.9)

What sort of issues do you mean Sean?

Pressed the scan button on mine today and it came up with heaps of pending codes and didn't seem to be stopping so I pressed the home button

I am looking at purchasing a Scangauge 2 for my 150 and am wondering whether it starts to show information with just the accessory switch on? Reason I ask is I want to monitor my starter battery and need a voltage readout prior to starting the car. Can I use the scangauge or do I need a separate voltmeter

Yes, it will still power up with the accessory switch on, and you can also turn it on with the car OFF, just push the lower right hand button (the one with the red ring around it) and the unit will come on for 15 seconds, or so.

                Thanks for this!

Confirmed. Works in my 2012 D4D Auto.

This Xgauge seems to agree within a few degrees with my Infra red thermometer reading of the transmission sump temp.

Interesting to watch the two Transmission temps. The previously known Xgauge rises rapidly and then falls to the above Xgauge temp when torque converter locks up. Then both drop together. Now I will have to blank off the transmission cooler a DC678 to see what difference the extra cooler makes to this Xgauge reading.

                Cheers and thanks

Now I am confused, as I am fairly sure there is another post which said the ATF temp showed 135 degrees centigrade whereas this Xgauge temp only works to 99,9 degrees. Or are we talking about centigrade and farenheit?

There are two temperature sensors on the transmission. The documentation with the scangauge and on its website-

                    http://scangauge.com.au/?page_id=338

gives a set of codes that read one of the temperature sensors, called ATF Temp A as listed below.

                    ATF Temp A 07E121D9 032100000000 2808 00010001FFD8

This sensor would appear to be the one that measures the temperature at the torque converter (TC). When the TC is in slip mode the oil heats rapidly and can reach 135c or higher. But when the load goes off or the TC locks up in 5th or 4th gear the temperature drops rapidly to that of the body of the transmission, normally about 60 to 70C..

The codes listed by diesel69em are for a Hilux as below

                    Hilux ATF Temp 07E121D9 032180000000 1810 0003004DFE70

which I guess has the same model auto trans as the Prado 150. It would appear that these codes enable the scangauge to read the temperature in the main body of the transmission on the Prado 150. This does not vary as much or as fast as the temp of the torque converter. If this temp gets towards 100 or more you probably are looking for trouble. Not sure what it will display if it gets to more than 100.
                    a. I don't want to ever see it that high
                    b. it may revert to whole numbers without the 10ths. i.e. 99.8 99.9 100 101 102 etc

I have my scangauge currently set to read both temperatures.

                    Cheers

Prone I think I am using the 2nd X-Gauge code on my 150 and I have seen quite a few times temps over 100 and up to 110. Mainly when accelerating uphill or in traffic. It does drop fairly quickly though.
Is anyone else getting figures like this?

According to Rodney at Wholesale Automatics, the Scangauge doesn't give very meaningfull temps. There is apparently a sensor on the valve body, but not sure which of the above temps that this reads. Rodney's opinion of the scangauge might possibly be due to the fact that he sells and recommends an analogue 52mm gauge which measures the temp before the cooler however he does run one of the biggest auto trans repair/ modification shops around so I would expect he knows what he is talking about. I will be checking my temps on the scangauge next time I tow my camper to see how the temps behave. He reckons the big issue with Prado trans is when towing caravans as the standard vehicle only has the trans fluid being cooled by a part of the radiator.

I'm using both codes and its interesting watching the 2 temperatures. When accelerating etc you see 1 temp rise quiet sharply and above the other one but when you cruise again the high temperature slowly comes back to equal the lower temperature of the other gauge.

Steve I have never seen over 85 on the hilux code, first code used to get to 130+. Since adding oil cooler I think the max has been 120 and that was on a 40+ day towing campertrailer up to bogong high plains. I didn't have 2nd code in for that trip though. Will check in the next few weeks with campertrailer in tow in the high country again. Only comment on ptnlinda's observation is that the temp using the first codes rises and falls quite rapidly.

And again thanks to diesel69em for pointing out the hilux code works on the 150.

I programmed the hilux code this morning and drove from Newcastle to Cowra towing the boat.
Hit 108ºC on the Hilux code going up the hills west of Sydney. I wasn't pushing it hard and the boat is probably a max of 700kg. It was about 32ºC though. After each climb it would drop off a bit but then the next climb would increase it more. Once the traffic was gone and the road leveled it dropped to high 80s/low 90s.

I definitely think a cooler is going on the mod list with a move to the territory in the winds.

                                Cheers
