    Hey Locked_120v6,

That must have been expensive replacing all 6 coil packs !!

I have also noticed the vibration increase slightly in speed over the time I have owned the car, always 5th gear. I have tried to reproduce it in every other gear, with and without the center diff locked. It only happens in 5th gear. Driving around in 4th would just annoy the hell outa me !

Seems strange if it is the torque converter....if the clutch or something else in it is rooted (warped or whatever), I would think it would affect every gear, and you would feel the vibration in every gear.

My recurring bad feeling about this problem is we'll never really know ! Most mechanics are just guessing (no offence if you are a mechanic reading this) at what the problem is, you really need someone who is intimate with the 120 transmission, and rebuilds them for a living. As far as I know, that doesn't happen much with prados ! We'll prolly know in 20 years time after blokes have been rebuiding em for a while.

Keep us all posted about your progress. Make sure you photograph everything in your gearbox and transfer case if you pull them out for servicing, get everything measured, and see if anything is out of tolerance, big expensive job !!

    Good luck !

    Best

You guys still having this problem? My Prado doesn't have this problem so if you guys need any photos of any part as a reference point to compare, let me know. I can take photos and upload them.

My prado is completely stock standard with only window tinting, OEM roof rails which I added, spare tyre cover and floor mats haha. so yes... very standard.

Same here, dirty injectors caused my 120 to shudder at 1200 rpm

I have an occasional shudder in reverse at low revs.
In trying to find the reason came across this thread on another forum http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/87...n-low-rpm.html

Might be worth looking at for the problems in forward gear.

Any suggestions on reverse situataion I have appreciated.

Hey Hoody, I have just returned from a 3 week trek of Cape York and on my return journey to Brissy this terrible shudder/vibration has appeared at low revs and under load between 65 and 100kmh, can you confirm that all I have to tell my mechanic is to look at and investigate the injectors.
Look forward to your early reply

I'm going to revive this thread as my issue never went away fully. replaced injectors and it still shudders all the way through the rev changes and constantly in 5th gear. local mechanic today suggested torque converter or balance issue - its like a continuous thump vibration through the car.
ran some diagnostics on the engine and its perfectly fine.
doesn't think its plugs or coil pack - feels like something is not balanced. feels expensive. did anyone get anywhere further with their issue?

Anybody with the diesels looked at Suction Control Valves (SCV's) ?

                            Hey all,

Injectors were one of the first things I looked at, and it didn't help. Nothing wrong with my engine mounts either.

I agree with Hoody, it's something unbalanced.

My shudder has not gone away, but it hasn't affected anything. I believe it's not something that needs fixing, just a bloody annoying thing!

Guessing it could be worn front driveshafts, sounds similar to a common issue with Honda's. Only way to tell is remove them and check how much play is in the CV joints (inner CV in the Hondas). Could be absolutely wrong, but just a guess. On the Honda's it kinda feels like an unbalanced wheel wobble or a swaying/vibrating feel under your bum on the front seats. Only ever felt on accel not decel.

                                well Sunny is spot on.
I just got it back from the 4th mechanic - 2 x Toyota mech's said it was fuel related, 3rd mech said it was transmission - well the 4th has nailed it - its drive shafts. known as driveline vibration.

I have 2 x worn front drive shafts and there is some play in the universal joints. its totally safe to drive but will need to be fixed of course. it took him less than an hour with the car on the hoist to diagnose.

they propose to recondition the drive shafts, possibly replace the uni's (wont know until they pull the thing apart if the unis are shot), and balance the tail shaft.

it cost me $1k to date for wrong diagnosis, and as mentioned above, 4 different mechanics. no idea what it will actually cost to fix, however now I finally know what is wrong with it, and feel safe to drive it. after I get back from holidays it will go in to be fixed.

                                Mike
