Yes, I did find that by calling directly and a few other places. DP already make the brackets so why not sell them too?

Well I went with what many PP members have done by installing a CAT filter, so just followed some examples and went that way. Besides it is 5 micron filter so did not think too much was wrong with it. Where do I find the information about the filter media? Besides I can always substitute the filter element with a Fuel Manager if it is better.

      Cheers.

The re-badged Donaldson kit 11 micron 114 LPH with two filters at $108 is good value. But then it may be better to buy direct from a Donaldson supplier & get their 3 micron kit?

After much research I went the less common way with a USA purchased Racor 230R2 kit plus 2 spare filters - delivered in 2015 AUD 200.
          http://www.ebay.com/itm/RACOR-230R2-...9cd8d6&vxp=mtr
(These people are big suppliers in USA & have great customer service!)

My Racor 230R2 2 micron filter is also 114LPH, but has 98% water separation, perhaps Donaldson has similar filter media from their website "Blue Filter" blurb??

My Racor filter is fitted as a final filter (yes the Toyota diff press s/w does not give you protection in this position). BUT! Toyota main fuel filter element & most after market equivalents have around 50% filter media water separation & 5-8 Micron filtration. IMHO not good enough on both counts!

I prefer the added water protection & fine silica particle separation of 2 micron Racor for the long life of my $7000 injection pump & $2000 injector set. I only use BP Ultimate, or Caltex Vortex fuel.

My TMC / Ryco fuel filter is changed at TMC intervals, high flow Racor every second TMC interval. Water bowls checked regularly.

For our 30,000psi CRD injectors & local diesel fuel quality - 2 micron final filter is best. (Fuel Manager agrees too!)

From my 40 years in Aviation Gas Turbines, I trust Parker-Racor quality.

            • Has anyone noticed any change in fuel consumption after installing the filter? I have CAT unit as a primary before the factory filter? Have seen some Utube videos where they show a Dyno test with a 2micron secondary filter and no noticeable difference in performance.

              • I have a Racor 230R10 fuel filter under the bonnet before the factory filter. I had it installed by a mechanic. I have replaced the Racor filter once myself after 16000km. It is now due to be replaced again.
I am happy to replace it myself but have been thinking whether this is wise. My car is 3 years old but I have an extended Toyota warranty for another 3 years and I reluctantly will get it serviced at a Dealership to ensure any warranty claims are not an issue. This is my concern if I replace the Racor filter and not being a mechanic and I have fuel related failure/problems -injectors, fuel pump, engine,... etc, does this make it difficult for me to claim and easy for Toyota to reject?
So is it wise to get the filter replaced by a mechanic or just to continue to replace it myself?
                Your thoughts are appreciated.
                thanks
                David

                • Well, many people have fitted their own filter. I read some where that Toyota brochures were left in 120 Prado's and Hilux's indicating the importance of another filter. I am sure someone can confirm where that was listed and what the intent of it was. But adding more filtration to protect your injection system as long as it does not impede on the working of the system should not be a problem. I have just added a CAT filter and still trying to see if there is any difference in mileage or something else!

                  • I have now fitted a Donaldson 3 micron pre filter. At $135 including a spare filter, very good value. Only difference is that there is no pump. (probably why much cheaper). Any way, pump not needed. Toyo one works just as well. Water separation just as good as Racor, so happy with that. The big impetus was the fuel light coming on as I started to climb the first big hill out of Bathurst coming back to Sydney. Managed to get the light off and changed the filter after getting home. A bit of brown sludge in filter, normal according to 2 mechanics. Pre filter would have picked it up. Fitted easily in AMTS bracket. No difference to the running of the engine. So here's to long injector life....

                    • Hello from the other side
I have following question to you all:
I have fitted FlashLube diesel filter, but as i have read it is only 30 micron, I am wondering if someone has checked if "FuelManager 2 micron" filters fit into FlashLube housing.

                      • My 150 D4D has two fuel filters. I had the second fitted before the original filter. It has slightly larger filter openings (I can't remember what). This was at my mechanics advice. It catches the larger crap in the fuel, then the original Filter catches the rest. A tad bit for you, is it common knowledge that the diesel we get on the east coast is bad quality and those lucky people on the west coast have much better quality diesel?
