I did supply a link to the relevant threads above but here you go. These are the two updates I was talking about:

The 2400rpm hesitation was fixed using:

TNS63/11 Hesitation on downshift under acceleration.

    It was issued on 26/08/11

    This is the thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...round-2400-RPM

Be aware that the trani won't select 5th before 60km/hr after this fix and you will use more fuel around town due to the trani holding 4th till 60km/hr.

Sometimes whilst driving in D mode I have also noticed it will hold 3rd or 4th way to long (well over 60km/hr and not under hard acceleration). When it does this you have to force it to shift by selecting S and then back to D. It will eventually shift but at far to high RPM IMO for the amount of accelerator depression. I must stress that this is very rare but it can do it and normally only after accelerating from a standing start. It never does this is if you are driving in S mode from the start.

The other fix was for a surging problem under TNF52/12

    This is the thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...hlight=surging

My car has lost the 1500rpm rattle/drone since these fixes were applied. I believe it to be the first fix not the second that worked as the first fix prevents the car from lugging.

    • Brothers 150 has started this vibe ever since the motor was fixed after a injector failed with no. 2 gaining a hole just to add a bit of interest to our holiday.
After reading several pages here, i inspected the airbox to find it moves on the rubber mounts (as it should) but hits the sides of the round hole in the mudgaurd making a clunking sound. Cut some plastic tube and jammed it in to stop all movement and this has all but eliminated the vibe at 1500.
All 4 cylinder diesels have a noisy intake due to the nature of the engine and most carmakers put mufflers or expansion chambers on the intake, but this one doesn't work enough. If the airbox is lose or to close to the sides (of the hole) the intake vibe will transmit through the metalwork making it sound even worse.
In this case it was the bumping into the hole making noise. Will need to remove the second battery to gain access to the snorkel tubing to do a more permanent fix.

      Good luck.

      Rusty.

      Edit:
The air box is the cause and other than changing the intake system there is no 'fix' . What we also have found is the rhs mud guard bends when leaned against, such as mechanics working on engine, this pushes the guard up against the body at the base of the windscreen, thus the noise seems to come from the bottom of the dash.
Fix: - remove the plastic corner from the screen and carefully bend the rhs guard away from the main body and refit plastic corner. Remove airbox and pack the base so the air inlet is in the middle of the hole on the inner guard.
This done and the noise is almost non existent.

      Good luck.

I have fittted dymamat to the inside of the RHS guard and the noise is much quietened. It made a significant difference and cheap fix.

        • Hi,

reading on another forum and they mentioned a "fix" that I had not heard about, this is it

The big 'fix' was removing the trim which is under the drivers side windscreen wiper, and cutting off a piece of plastic that touches the windscreen, which causes a resonance through the windscreen and into the drivers side front speaker. Cardiff Toyota did this fix to my car in late 2010 and the difference was amazing. I have also had all the other known fixes done as well. I'm happy with the result.

Hope it helps someone with the drone problems

          • Trying to figure out which bit of plastic is supposed to be cut out? Has anyone got any pics?

            • Also, can anyone advise if the small circular plastic trim clips that secure the plastic wheel arch liner over the wheel are able to be removed without them breaking or do you have to replace them?

              • Old thread but thought I would add a possible cause to newer GDI 2.8 vibration causes.

I have a 2016 Prado GXL, January build with 2000kms on the clock. The car developed a major vibration which appeared to be coming from the dash. Off It went to the dealers for their opinion. Maybe the turbo set up they said? Maybe it's a characteristic of the car they said? No maybe it's the UHF Ariel mount? No joy then at that point!

Home I went with a view to them sorting at its first service / check.

Patience has never been my strong point so into the garage I went. Bonnet open and looked with screwdriver ready in hand.
Leaning into the engine bay I noted the plastic radiator trim was rattling. It turned out that all the plastic button clips were loose causing the trim to vibrate in all gears while excelerating (1300/1800 rpm).

I had a nudge bar fitted as an option and the trim was taken off. The original button clips were used when it was replaced which is never a good idea as they are never as effective once removed.

Solution was to replace the clips and secure the trim. Vibration and problem solved.....

                • Those clips are reusable but pushing them in all the way actually releases them.

Krypto, I have no doubt the clips should be reusable but I can assure you they were not in this case.

I tried all ways and they were pretty much rooted and did not secure the trim. They were replaced by Toyota so I am not concerned.

Not to mis the point, that was the cause of the vibration. Poor fitting clips leading to loose trim.

                    Cheers

                    • Hi All
I have posted several times regarding the vibration talked about on this forum, I will recap, I bought my Prado 150 series April 2012, I drove it out the showroom and felt the vibration, rang Toyota and they said to report it on my 1000km service which I did, they did a few silly things( mentioned on this forum) to fix the vibration.

Every service after that I complained about the vibration, again they seemed to grab at straws in there endeavour to fix the vibration, they also told me on a regular basis that I should wait until it gets worse, well I have now done 140k km and the vibration is so bad it feels as though something is going to break, I have been having my Prado serviced at my regular mechanic since the capped servicing was over, I am going to take it back to Toyota for the 140k service and see what they can do about the vibration.
                      Cheers
                      Al
