    Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

Good thinking guys. I've spoken to the Toyota Customer Experience people as well - the lady I spoke has already spoken to the dealer who will apparently organise the regional technical bloke from Toyota to inspect my vehicle. Call Toyota Guys!!

      Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

I am experiencing the same issue, 1400-1600 RPM under light load, resonating vibration eminating from RHS dash (may be the air intake as suggested above). I can live with the vibration, understanding that this is a point at which the engine is not finely balanced, but the rattle in the dash must go. Booked in to be looked at on Monday.

A bit of a shame really, as it was something similar that turned me off the Pajero & the Pathfinder.

Will work through it with the dealer, as the noise from the dash resulting from the vibration will send me postal in a very short time. That rev range is where it sits around town, 80K speed limits particularly, and there are a heap of those in Canberra.

I am still impressed with the engine overall, and can live with the vibe if they can sort the rattle it causes in the dash

        Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

        Hello vibers,

Got my car booked into toyota today, after going in and explaining how i was not going to sit back and wait for something to be done. With the amount of tecnology around these days i find it hard to believe our "professional toyota dealers"can't find the root cause of a vibration,to be told I'll log the issue with toyota is just no good enough,so i asked for my car to be looked at again and this time focus on the engine mounts and transmission as this is where the vibe has to be generated from, as mentioned above the rattle in dash/door panel is a result of the vibe not the cause of it.

NB Toyota Aust has not rang me back they said 48hrs it has been 72hrs "oh what a surprise"

anyway will post result of visit to my dealer tonight.

        cheers

          Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

          Just got home from dealer.

Once again i have been told this vibration is just what the 150 series does.
My dealer said they did an active test on the engine mounts and no fault was found.
Once again they said they would log a DPR.
Certainly makes for an expensive vibrator.

I guess it's back to toyota aust, will ring them on Monday!!!

          Cheers

            Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

Purchsed Prado 150 series Desiel in April 2010.We too have same vibration problem in the dash area at 1500rpm. Noticed about the 1000klm range. It seemed to have got worse when the bull bar was installed, so we returned it to Toyota to see the problem again and they have told us that it is the third Prado they have had in now with same problem. They have sent the report to Toyota to see what their response is. Will keep you posted.

              jarpa,

you should log your complaint with toyota aust, the more issues logged the better.

My diesel does the same. A VERY irritating rattle that seems to come from the dashboard at 1500RPM. I will also phone Toyota.

                  Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

Same issue with my car, I have taken it in twice now to two different dealers, with no real solution from Toyota service. I am actually very disappointed with their poor service from the two dealers I have dealt with regarding this problem. I have had the standard response from both Toyota dealers that the vibration is "normal".

maccais 9 I blieve you are correct it is the engine mount/ transmission, the vibration through the dash is the result of an issue originating from there, The 2nd toyota dealer I dealt with insulated the noise from the dash hitting the body but the vibration noise is still there from a different part of the dash.

I do not believe it is an isloated insulation issue

                    Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

Hi all, you can add me to the list. I first thought it was something that I had put in the driver's door pocket resonating, but I removed everything and it was still there. It appears to be coming from the right wheel arch or the very front of the right side-step. It disappeared for a couple of weeks last month, but it's back in force now.

On the topic of DPRs, don't hold your breath, I'm afraid. I raised one in March because the ZR/Kakadu voice recognition simply doesn't work (see separate post), and I've had no feedback whatsoever. :x Toyota certainly aren't winning any points for customer service with me.

                    Cheers,

                      Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

First service done yesterday and I spoke with the dealer about the rattle. The mechanics looked into it and apparently there is a plastic panel on the font of the windscreen on the right hand side that has an air intake in it that is "warped" and resonating at the 1400-1600 rev range. I have arranged to take it back in next week to have the panel replaced as they were not comfortable "packing it out" as they feared it would cause wind noise. As a matter of interest they upgraded the software for the transmission as I had experienced the warning light coming on while driving up a mountain pass. The difference in the shift pattern is only just discernible but it is definitely different, although this did not change the resonance at 1500 RPM. That said, the shift feels "firmer" which I can only put down to less converter slippage as a result of the change.

I will post an update once the panel is replaced.

                      For those looking into the rattle problem, my observations are as follows;

1400-1600 RPM, under mild load such as a gentle grade, and the rattle is subject to temperature variations, as when it is cold, I cannot replicate, but once warm, can induce the rattle on demand. This suggests that the proposal that the plastic cover immediately under the windscreen on the RHS is warped could well be true, probably because the plastic panel is mounted to metal, with different thermal properties resulting in one expanding more than the other.

I haven't been game enough to sit on the bonnet and check, mostly because it is 80k's in 5th :^)

                      Cheers

What was the weather like? hotter or colder than normal?

I have experienced the same problem and it was driving me mad. I had traded a 120 series when the tax incentive package was offered last year and I must say that I miss the old girl. The 150 is a lot noisier in the cabin and feels less refined. The lag accelerating out of corners/roundabouts in the 150 is also disappointing. Now that I got that off my chest I should mention that my dealer had some luck rectifying my vibration. They told me that they located 3 wiring looms that could have been better secured (and which apparently have been rectified) but the main problem was an air conditioning pipe (or similar) that was vibrating against something. They have 'insulated' the pipe with rubber or foam and it has rectified the noise by about 75%. I'm still not 100% satisfied and am keeping a close eye (ear) on it. Sorry I can't be more specific with the exact location, but I hope it helps.

I to have had a vibration issue at the front end just like every body else. The main difference with mine is that it has only occurred since I have had the ARB bar fitted. Well today I had the car in at ARB and they found that the mounting bolts for the bar where loose on the right side. They swear the bolts where Torqued up and Loctited in position on installation. So not sure if the loose bolts have caused the vibration or the vibration caused the loose bolts :? :?

Well I am happy to report that the vibration has now significantly reduced and is hardly noticeable, but it is still there between 15-1600 rpm. Hope this helps any one with a bar on the front, especially if the vibration is causing the bolts to loosen...... not a good look

Had this very irritating rattle that seemed to come from the dashboard - also at 1500rpm. Had my car at the dealer today and was told it was something wrong with ?firewall/guard. It seems to be fixed now - no rattles at all.
