    Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

Good news Pwop - do you reckon you could get your dealer to tell Toyota how to fix this? Despite assurances the Toyota guy would contact me and inspect my Prado I've not heard a sausage

The dealer here is just in a small town and a sub-branch from Horsham. Interesting that when I mentioned it to the receptionist LADY she said that they had a few of these complaints before and they seemed to know what was wrong and how to fix it.

Yes - 1 week old - and really only fault with 700km on it diesel auto - April build - 1500 revs vibration. Glad it's not just me or my vehicle. I will leave it until first service - but annoying it is and wrecks an otherwise very civilised drive -I have found myself moving it to 4th or speeding up to stop the noise. Funny I noticed it on the first 40km driving it home.

I have the same vibration. Drives me nuts. I hope in time the dealers can sort this out.
Does anyone know how to rectify this fault.

I have been looking around my self to narrow down the source of the vibrations.

The Vibration isn’t present if it the car is in Neutral and the revs are changed, so I chocked the wheels, pulled on the hand brake and put the car in Drive. With the wife in the car and foot firmly in place on the brake the car was revved up to 1500 rpm. Well the vibration re-appeared as strong as ever. After a quick look around the vibration was coming from the Air filter housing. When pressure is placed on top of the cover the vibration disappears and sure as eggs when I take my hand off the air filter housing the vibration returns.

A look at the air box revealed that one of the metal spring clips that hold the cover on is missing. The plastic moulding that secures the clip to the base section of the air box and allows it to pivot has broken off. The clip has disappeared and therefore the lid isn't secured in place and vibrates excessively between 1400-1600 rpm.

So during the week I am off to Toyota to get it fixed. Will update once it is done.

              Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

I too have been doing some looking, and took time to take a drive with a stethoscope to narrow down where the noise was coming from. The result of this was the identification of the source being the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen. Further investigation while the vehicle was stopped revealed that there is a plastic moulding on the upper RH guard inside the bonnet that is loose that could be a candidate, but with some static testing in the driveway with the throttle held at 1500RPM, I took the stethoscope and checked the exterior of the vehicle and when I got to the uppermost tip of the RH guard where it wraps around the bottom corner of the windscreen there was a resonating vibration, not actually making a noise, but the tip of the guard was vibrating. On stopping the vehicle, I pushed on the top of the guard and found that it flexes. I assume that this is because of the complex shape, and that in forming the complex shape, the metal has been stretched and is a little bit thinner. The same vibration is not present in the lower section of the guard or the A pillar. I suspect that when under load, the vibration is stronger and that the vibration becomes sufficiently strong to allow part of the guard to "hammer" on another part of the body. This causes noise that is transferred into the cockpit via the windscreen, based on my observations while driving (with stethoscope) this seems to be the case.

I am off to the dealership to have it looked at on Wednesday and will provide an update once they have had a look. I spoke with the Service Manager today and he is keen to test my theory, as he is keen to identify the cause and see if it can be addressed during pre-delivery into the future to take the load off his workshop. Will also get some more customisation done to hook the windows into the remote, turn off the lights when the engine turns off, slow the auto on for the lights to stop other drivers thinking I am flashing them when going under bridges, and see if they can disable the door chime when the ignition is on accessory. They turned off the seat belt chime last time and I am really grateful for that, as I spend some time dragging a boat around a caravan park and also carry gear on the passenger seat while at work.

Anyway, next update after the Wednesday visit.

              Cheers

                Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

                hello vibers,

Been to dealer again still not fixed but the workshop manager said he knows where the vibe is being generated.
He said it is coming from the air box which is mounted on the RHS guard, he seems to think due to the high volume of air passing through this box once the air reaches the actual filter there is a dampening effect and causing the whole air box to vibrate which inturn sends the vibration through the car.

He tried a couple of things to fix it but with no luck, so its another DPR and back to Toyota Aust.

                cheers

                  Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm - Success

Had a trip to the dealer last Wednesday, where they dismantled and reassembled all the kit in the A-pillar, loosened and retightened the mudguard bolts and refitted a couple of plastic trims that were loose. 900Kms later there is still no rattle. Got them to do the mod to link the windows to the remote while it was there, works a treat.

                  Cheers

Same problem as the rest of you guys. April build VX (Diesel / Auto). First noticed it vibrating in the right hand area of the dash near windscreen at around 1000kms. Booked in for Thursday to get an engine flat spot addressed so adding this one to the growing list.

Will drop in and ask them if they have forwarded the info up the line, haven't managed to get back yet as too busy with work. Have some new roof rack locks to pick up before we go away next weekend, will post the outcome.

Add my VX to the list.

Just had the 20k service, let them know among other things that the vibration they reckonned they fixed at the 10k was still there.

Informed me that it had been escalated up the Toyota Chain waiting for a solution. He believed that most of the D4D 150's had the issue and that it was just worse in some cars than others.

Asked when they expected a fix and got shrugged shoulders and hopefully something before the next service.

                          Regards

                          Brendon

Could you please pm me or post on this forum the name of the dealer that fixed the vibration in your car. I or my dealer would like to speak with them to find out exactly how they fixed the vibration.

                            Thanks for your help

Had some form of mod done inside the front guard when the car was in at the dealers this week. Dealer and Toyota Customer Experience Centre - (1800 252 097) both aware of the problem and agreed to fix it whilst in for other issues. Only driven it a few times since but the rattle seems to have dissapeared.

                                Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

I have 15200 kms on clock on 150 GX auto T/D and just 3 months old.
The 1500 rpm drives me banana's.
My way of ridding it is to place into "S 4" where the gearbox locks in and the noise disappears.
I then go back to "D" and all is well until it happens again.
Its almost as though there are not enough engine revs , like you are in too high a gear.
When you go to S 4 there is a real kick as the engine gets a "Kick" and powers on.
We have just returned from 10500 KMS Melb to Cape York.Reckon we did 4000 KMS on Dirt as we tried to keep to dirt.
When returning back to Bramwell Junction I took the Air Cleaner apart and "Knocked" the dust from the filter.
We immediately saw an improvement in Fuel economy of 0.8 ltrs/100.
Hope can get a snorkel soon.
                                Leighland
