  • Steevo,
My mates 4.8L Patrol used 20L/100km on the same highway but with less performance, so yes I'm pretty happy with 13.2

MRC Dyno Services and Performance @ Castle Hill, NSW. Speak to Mark - he used to have a supercharged 90 series with upgraded pulley/boost and meth injection so has some genuine knowledge on the matter

    • How does your fuel consumption compare to N/A?

I just worked ours out yesterday when I refueled. We get 14-15L/100km with all types of driving (mainly town driving on that tank though) on 98 which doesn't seem too bad. Obviously though, if I could get 1L/100km, I'd be very happy!! Haha!

At this point I have the impression that the economy would actually be better than before - if I wasn't enjoying the power so much.

Looking at recent trip segments, it seems easier than before to attain low figures such as 13L/100km when cruising. However, when enjoying it too much, the old high figures of 17L have increased to 19L. Given the huge power increase I don't think an extra 2L for spirited driving is anything to worry about, at all.

Long term averages over the past few years were declining, from 17.5L/100km to 16.5L (after 33's and ratios) and finally 15.5L (unknown reason - perhaps better service/maintenance). With the charger my long(ish) average has increased to 16.5L/100km, but I have hopes of lowering that after doing the latest calculation....

Economy during the last 2,300km of my holiday:
14.4L /100km, using both 91 ULP and 98 PULP, over mixed terrain; highway, mountains, dirt, low range, dirt and the motorway home.

        • Hey Glen, got a question for you. I got my 95 series lifted 2" a while ago but it seems my front is lower then my rear. I assume it's because of the IFS? But I'm just wondering if there's a way to lift the front just that little bit more so it looks level?

          • Ratsack the front should always sit lower in the front then the rear with IFS. You have to allow for down travel as well. Its typical with all IFS, 100 series I reckon are the worst when standard. Some people with 100 series I have read, have actually increased the front say 3 inch and the back only 2 so its sits straighter but I was told this is not always a good thing ??? Im no expert in the field so this could be all bullshit but even my 120 sits only slightly lower in the front..Im sure Glen will lead you in the right path....Cheers Steve

              • My current one is the same, down on the front Ratsack. If you wanted it up higher you could put those strut spacers in but I would be careful about going too high as it will start to play havoc with cv's. My previous prado I had a 4inch lift in it 50mm spring and 50mm spacers front and back, don't even know if you can still get them. Great offroad but I would not recommend it as it regularly chewed out cv's and had a tramtrack feel to it when driving. I still left it in till I sold it as it looked pretty damn good:evil:. Sorry about crap pics but all I have of it. Here is what mine looked like, almost level

Sorry Glen not intending to highjack your thread

You are one of the reasons for getting my car to the point where it stands now.
Thanks a million for the help in all channels!!

Thanks for the comments, I'm happy to know this thread has been helpful

                            • Yeah, I think those tyres have seen better days! Haha!

Glen, with a 2" lift and 32" tyres, do you see any need for a body lift?
Do you notice much difference between 265/75 and 255/85?

A body lift does improve the clearance below all bumpers, the sills (under the doors) and the rear tank (if it's protection plate is also raised), but no, it's not needed nor worth it for 32's. For 33's, yes.

265/75R16 (32") vs 255/85R16 (33"). Definitely a big difference. Whether it's worth it, depends what you drive. The added height would be beneficial for most tracks, but it's main benefit in my opinion is the larger rolling diameter which allows the vehicle to pop up rock steps much easier (imagine rolling different size balls against a set of stairs). Unfortunately they also make a big difference to performance and braking - the added weight being a considerable factor. Regardless, in future if I change vehicle, I'll always aim for 33's (if not larger).
