  • Mudflap Problem Solved ?

    Hi there,

This is my first post, so please be gentle.

After emails & letters to Toyota re the crappy, do nothing mudfalps on my new Prado 150 GXL & getting absolutely nowhere, I collared the Dealer Principle from my Toyota Dealer.

He inspected my vehicle & agreed that the mudflaps seemed rather small for their purpose & provided minimal protection at best, particularly as the vehicle was purchased for the specific purpose of towing our caravan.

He put his staff to work on finding a solution & came up with the following:-

    Mudflaps from a Hi Lux SR5 FRONTS 76625 OK030 & 76626 OK030 REARS 76625 OK130 & 76626 OK130.

The original mudflaps were left on the vehicle & the new ones fitted as well. The main reasons being that if the rears were removed a hole would be left in the bottom of the bumper bar, the originals would provide additional support for the new ones.

No holes were drilled in the vehicle.

If I were doing it, the only thing I would do differently is to use a small "Pop Rivet" in each corner of the original rear mudflap to secure it to the new one, not a screw in the middle.

I hope this is of help to others.

    Stay safe,

    Tar Trek

and they even look like they SHOULD be that size... if they are to do any good! Looks like you will avoid the "sandpaper" rear guard look!

              Tar Trek,
The bigger mud flaps will be great on road but as someone else pointed out they may be torn off when doing heavy duty off road work . My standard ones are bent back a bit after going through some rough stuff so I reckon the bigger ones would be gone .

                Hi there,

I have not been off road & I agree that they may catch on obstacles, however we use ours for towing our caravan & usually the worst roads are gravel roads in National Parks.

Unfortunately with the originals we get the double whammy, Prado & caravan damaged by road debris.

I will definately keep an eye on them to see if they do create any problems, if so I may have to do a rethink.

I can't quote the actual cost as it was incorporated in an account for other work as well, but what ever it was, I considered it to be quite fair & reasonable.

The Dealer said some of the mudflaps were not new, however I would never have picked it.

                  Hi TT,

We have exactly the same problem with towing our van.

Great solution and the end result looks very professional.

Which dealer in Sydney did you use ??? OK to PM me with info if you prefer.

Also, is there a contact name, to save jumping through all the hoops again.

                  Cheers,

                    Hi Cobbo150,

I have provided photos & part numbers & that's as far as I am prepared to go.

To provide any additional information would damage the relationship I have with my Toyota Dealer & I have absolutely no intention of doing that.

I believe my dealer did the work off his own bat at a very reasonable cost to me & for that I'm extremely grateful.

                    Tar Trek.

                      Hi All,

Spoke to my dealer re flaps and he advised me that this issue was discussed in a management meeting today as it is now listed nationaly as a often reported item to Toyota. He indicated that Toyota is looking at a fix where those who raise it as a problem at servicing are likely to get a replacement set of flaps. He felt that this is probably a month away from being in place.

This is an example of what you get with a 2” lift and a little mud. I wouldn’t like to see to many K’s on gravel with this sort of impact.

thanks for posting photos, makes me really think about mudflaps, especially when I get around to fitting springs and shocks.
I am getting a window tint done next week and while I am there may consider some clear plastic to protect the panels.

I was thinking I need a coating down the sides of the vehicle as well,
