Mudflap Problem Solved ?

  • For UK readers - a reminder - replacement flaps not available in the UK for at least late 2009 early 2010 models. The rear bumper has undergone a number of changes, for some reason, exactly where the mud flap extensions slot into the rear bumper indentations.

    I had around three/four longer flaps sets offered up to my 150 and none would fit.... and Toyota won't replace the rear bumper because the vehicle has been 'homogenised'.... :-{

    • I bought a second hand 2010 150 Prado at the start of the year, will toyota change those small mudflaps ? or will i have to pay for them because i didnt buy new, the fronts are the ones i really need changing as i already fitted a Kaymar dual wheel carrier.

        They'll replace all of them.

        I was under the impression kaymar adjusted their brackets slightly to fit the bigger mud flaps so whether they'll fit or not is another story.

        • Thanks Wooley, monday i'll go into Toyota and see them about the larger mudflaps and get them fitted in 2 weeks when i get the 50000 service done. Hopefully Bridge Toyota in Darwin wont argue.

            Maybe give kaymar a ring too and see if they did make any changes.

            • well I've done 65,000klm. now, including about 10000klm on dirt (West McDonald ranges, the outback loop to Birdsville & The Oodnadatta track) with minimal damage. With a 6 week run thru the kimberley coming up, I am going for the upgrade
              has anyone been successfull in getting this retro when out of warranty ???

              • sorry,a case of brain fade , i'm getting the fixed price servicing limit (60K) mixed up with warranty (100K)

                I'll bring my 70K service forward and get them done next month before the kimberley trip.

                • Well took mine to dealer this morning for 3 warranty jobs - mud flaps, drive shaft clunk and reacall for cargo barrier (replacement glass breaking hammer I think). In the about 3-hour I waited, they managed to grease the drive shaft. Did not have parts for the other jobs! I even called yesterday to confirm details. Was not going a worry about the repaint of bumper but now considering it just to annoy them.
                  Sorry to be slightly off topic but really p... off.

                  • Off topic but I think you have to have had the shaft regreased a few times before they will entertain the replacement. Have a read of my last post http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post342536

                    • yes, there is definitly a stalling tactic by the dealers, I spent 3/4 hour today at the service desk before they acknowledged that my prado (build date 12/2009) was eligible for the replacement flaps. they said the fronts are hard to come by but should be ready for my 70K service mid May. any probs and I will post.

                        well i booked our Prado in for a service and complained about the flaps and flat spot again to my surprise four new flap no charge flat spot fixed front flaps could be bigger but happier now

                          • Got a phone call morning to say that my replacement flaps were in.

                            Got them fitted this afternoon, they checked the bumper and were prepared to repair and respray it. I declined as I dont think its that bad, they still gave me the option if I change my mind they will do it though.

                              • I've been putting this off for a while but after a recent altercation with a skip I was up for a new rear bumper so popped in to the dealer to arrange for the replacement mudflaps. I'm guessing it had something to do with the fact that they wouldn't have to respray the rear bar if the new flaps went on quickly...I had a call 3 days later to let me know that the replacement mudflaps had arrived. Went straight to the dealer after picking up the car from the panel beater and they had the replacement flaps on in 45min.
