My 2007 120 GX with 1GRFE has 245,000k and going strong with no noises or oil consumption but at my work we run some Hilux's with the same 1GRFE and I have sold two with untouched engines using no oil between services one at 713,656km and another at 620,000km.

This week we performed a 700,000k service on another and we will see if we can run it to 1,000,000k mark Now that will be pretty good for a petrol engine. My work Hilux has only 333,000k ATM
After having been around these engines I had no problem purchasing mine with 220,000k

Biggest thing with any of these is regular servicing!

        Cheers Rick

My 2c. Quality motor vehicles like toyotas are a package deal. The engine will generally last the life of the vehicle unless its abused/ill treated/or crap happens.

It may start to use a little oil is all.

Get one thats in good nick and use the high K's as a bargaining chip.

Friend of mine has a 2004 120 with the petrol donk & it had 360K on it when he sold it. Still ran like a dream but he serviced it religiously. My petrol 90 has 270k on it & I'm not looking to get rid of it any time soon. Doesn't use a drop of oil & still runs strong. I was looking to upgrade last year, found a nice 120 D4D with 150k on it, but with the cost of all the mods & the injector issues, i decided to stay with the old 90.

Funny you say that. A colleague has a very well looked after 90. Tricked out for touring with the wife and two kids, camper trailer, etc, etc, it hasn't hit 200k kms yet.

He was considering moving onto a 120, so joined me in some research and crunching of numbers when I was hunting for mine. No matter how we worked it, it didn't make financial sense for him to sell, buy and go through the process of setting up another vehicle. This included factoring in the cost of fuel when towing, driving Fraser Island, etc. The news got even better when he presented his wife with the facts and figures and she opened the treasury to allow for more additions, gadgets and creature comforts.

My prado is at 184000 with no issues to date. I am hoping to drive it for another year or two before selling it (around 250000km?) Should be a bullet proof engine..

                        V6 prado engine reliability

                        Hi guys,

I have always been a hilux owner and I'm about to buy a 2008 v6 prado.
My last hilux was a 2007 model with the D4D diesel engine, in which I had to fork out $3000 for new injectors at 120000 Kim's.
I have all but decided to go for the V6 prado as they are cheaper to buy and I won't have to worry about diesel injector issues,
Don't get me wrong I think the D4D is an awesome motor.

I am wanting to hear from people who have or had a similar v6 prado, and what the engine is like.
I don't need to know fuel efficiency, just weather the engine is long term reliable and if the have any common issues?

                        Thanks for your input.

Lots of discussion on this already.

Put this into google - pradopoint:v6

Basically, yes. Fantastic engine. Correct servicing sees them last for many, many kms.

We have had 4 prado's now. The current 120 series has 200k on it with absolutely no dramas. Actually want to sell it and get a newer one 150 series diesel. The main reason for wanting to sell it is that we want to do some major trips to the cape and back etc and want to put the accessories on something newer so that we get the best return on investment with them (eg diff lockers, winch, etc), otherwise we wouldn't be selling it. Goes well.

We picked up our 2005 V6 with 168000k on it eight months ago, and it's now clicked over 185000k. I did quite a few short-interval oil changes when we bought it to try to de-sludge the engine (if it had any sludge) and now drop the oil at every 5000k's. It's the easiest engine I've ever owned to do an oil and filter change on! We plan to keep it for another 3-4 years and I've got no doubts on it's reliability. My mates V6 racked up 300000ks without any mechanical dramas, apart from a noisy belt idler, so yeah they are a good solid engine. As long as oil changes have been done as per the book, you should be fine.

Hi guys first time poster long time lurker, i picked up my 2006 GXL 120 series just over 15 months ago with 250k on it and since then have done 2 trips from geelong vic to Qland towing my offroad camper 1 to Fraser and the other to bribe for 2 weeks at a time and have not had a single problem with it and having the twin tanks i out lasted my m8 nissen patrol diesel on fraser bye about 300k the last 3 days he wouldn't drive it as he is a cheap ass and wouldn't buy fuel there, its just about to clock over 300k over the Xmass brake with a another trip somewhere probably only to rocklands fishing or something, but im loving the prado very comfy to drive great on long trips and very comparable to the fuel cost of running a diesel and a lot smoother
