    Hi Madkore
As Bushbasher states in post #12 above, the RFI antenna should be considered also.
Currently have the GME elevated feed on H/D spring on the Sovereign bull Bar with the S.S. whip.
We have lost a few of the whips (simply vibrate out of their mountings both screwed and pressed.)
I have used RFI gear on Farm vehicles in the past with no failures.
    Cheers Troy

We use RFI antennas, all different types for UHF including the CD 50 and CD51 as mentioned above. We also have used the CD5000 fibreglass whip successfuly as well as a large number of the Cd21XX series of 3G antennas which are fibreglass. All of our work vehicles use RFI and we have changed the antennas over a couple of vehicles and they are robust and are very high quality. Couldn't recommend them any more highly.

Seems like RFI come with a strong recommendation.

I emailed 4WD Action (just out of curiousity) and they provided some good advice. I am still a little while away, but thanks all for your input everyone. GME still seems very popular though, although I believe this may be because most 4WD stores (TJM and ARB) mainly stock GME.

Foxclan - any reason you went with GME when you have had good experiences with RFI?

            Cheers,
Hey Toddy, I know it was a long time ago mate but I was hoping you'd be able to tell me where you got the bracket to mount your antenna on the tailgate? I have just ordered a CB kit for my prado and was hoping to do the same

Been alogn time i was on prado point - various issues.

as a former radio comms person smaller the better I like RFI CD51-68-73 or the non coax version suffix 70 at end.

may not be available anymore but very reliable nothing to break unless you hit it at coil base with a tree branch, used extensively on mine site vehicles couriers etc.

my RFI CD900 antenna broke the other day. And I saw a post (which I now can't find) on 4wd action saying that you shouldn't mount a cd900 on a prados bull bar and listed a heap of anecdotal evidence about them snapping on prados. Has anyone else heard of this problem?
I was going to replace the whip with a like for like replacement but now I'm rethinking it.

Also, are there any issues with mounting any old whip on a elevated feed? (Sorry I hijack the thread but I figured it was fairly related)

                  Been there, done it.

The vibration of the bullbar is transmitted to the aerial. The CD900 has a strong lower section and a wire metal top section. If you watch the vibration of the aerial you will notice the top section flexing a lot, and over time the wire hardens and eventually fractures.

We replaced the CD900 with the CDQ5000W and no further issues for years.

I just finished a 6000km trip with no bitumen from Kulgera to Broken Hill (via Simpson Desert). GME AE4706 on the heavy duty spring survived no problems.

I've got a GME AE4703B - and that has been solid for me. Done over 20K km, including the Kimberlys and back. Of course it helps having a GMTX3800 25W on the other end of it!
