  • Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Don't have much detail and couldn't see anything on the interweb but when i dropped the car in to get the aircon fixed this morning there was a note on my paperwork to carry out a bullbar mount recall. when i questioned it they said it was only for sovereign bars.

could be worth mentioning at your next service if you've got one.

MOD EDIT (to save reading through pages and pages of info):
The "recall" or better referred to as CSE (Customer Service Exercise) ran for a short period and has now expired. If you have the older style bullbar brackets, you will need to purchase the "recall" brackets at your own cost - especially if you want to fit a winch as the new brackets are much stronger.
The new "recall" bracket looks like this

If you don't have the above bracket, then:
PZQ296016ZBK 120 Sovereign bullbar recall kit (brackets only)

To fit a winch, only do so with the "recall" brackets. You'll need this winch cradle
PZQ29602WC 120 Winch Cradle to suit "recall" brackets

If you bought a 2nd hand bullbar and it did not come with the bolts, you'll need this kit
PZQ296016ZFK 120 Sovereign Bullbar fitting kit (includes chassis pin)

Would be good to hear what the go with this is as I am booked in for a service on Saturday and I always seem to have the upper hand on things like this from on here before my local dealership does.

After a few phone calls checking the details of each vechicle my wifes Prado just needs inspection at this stage but mine needs replacement mounts fitted and they need the vechicle for about 3 hours....not sure how they know what's what.....

              Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

is this anything to do with the cracking on the inner guards/firewall that some have reported - I seem to remember mounts for bull bars were mentioned at some point?

                Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

I suspect it is because the mounts are crap! On the CSR this year the only problem I had was cracking the LHS mount at the front where the actual bull bar attaches to it. I think they are called "crush cans" and I managed to get a couple of 2nd hand ones off here to fix it. It took about an hour to do one side. I will be very interested to see if they have an upgraded spec. mount. There must be hundreds of us with this bar. Corrugations kill them . The trip leader on the CSR trip said the previous year he had to take the bull bar off a Prado and weld BOTH mounts. At least I got home with mine . We need to keep on this. Neil

                  Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

word is the parts are already available, and all prado 120's and hilux's will be inspected (unsure on years but early definate).
if they have a sov bb the brackets will be replaced (no guarantee on the same day as inspection).
                  letters will be sent shortly.
those that have appointments already, this inspection will be added to your service/repair time.

i'm not happy, as they wont refit all my wiring as i have (nice and secure), so more work when it comes back.
                  that is life.
the upside is, they will have to re-align the bar when they refit it. yay, it has coped a hiding and needs it

                    Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Ours is being done on Monday. The paperwork provided at the 70,000 service last week describes it as a 'customer service exercise'. When asked what that meant, the dealer's service rep said it was a quality control practice, and that the mounts would be sent off to Toyota for testing. Seemed reasonable at the time.

                        Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Just rang prosser toyota to enquire. Appparently its only for the steel genuine bullbars fitted to Prados and Hiluxs. Not the alloy sovereign bars. Toyota Recall notice is number 0631H
Notices would have been sent out to any Prado owner who had the bar fitted by a Toyota dealer.

They would not and it would go to the orginial owner...now if they are a knob you will not get it...if they are great you will. That is why fourms like ours is what makes the PP world around.

Ours is being done, and we have a Sovereign bar. Our dealer said it was for Toyota steel bars on Hiluxs and Sovereigns on Prados.

                              Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Toyota Customer Experience Centre (gotta love that name) told me that letters will be going out tomorrow night to Prado owners with Sovereign Bars. Problem is, if you are not the original owner, you likely will not get a letter, so will have to go to your local dealer with the vehicle. When I bought my Prado I advised Toyota that I was the new owner however it had not been recorded in their database, so I will be checking back with them next week to ensure they have updated as promised.
When I said the mounts were a safety issue he replied that both Toyota and the relative Government Dept don't class it as a safety issue. They seem to reckon that when one side cracks and the bar starts to move, you will stop and get it fixed. Bit hard to do this in the outback! Just ask the Prado owner who left his Sovereign bar on a dune near Big Red a few months ago!
                              Cheers.......Wayne
