Exactly right, it is used to power a relay mounted in the van. The relay switches the Van bat power to the fridge. It seems a lot of vannies run the 12V fridge power through the trailer plug (pin 2 which is the rev wire), to my way of thinking trailer plugs are not designed to run large current. It obviously works but to me it is high risk.

Anyone know of a pick up for IGN that is only on after the car starts? Preferably down the back of the car as I will be running it to a relay for a 3 way fridge.
I did go looking for the green wire near the 240V outlet as outlined in the post above, but it is not there in a GX.
Cheers.Last edited by cbm8880; 27-04-2012, 04:08 PM.2010 Prado GX 3.0L TD - "Paul" - TJM XGS 40mm Lift Kit, Firestone Coilrite Airbags, 5000kg Rated Front Recovery Points, Sure Power Battery Isolator and Dual Battery Setup, Airtec Snorkel, HID High Beam Headlights.

Yeah I have thanks. I'll use that and send it through the reverse pin in the trailer wiring I think.2010 Prado GX 3.0L TD - "Paul" - TJM XGS 40mm Lift Kit, Firestone Coilrite Airbags, 5000kg Rated Front Recovery Points, Sure Power Battery Isolator and Dual Battery Setup, Airtec Snorkel, HID High Beam Headlights.

"Green Wire, Drivers side of the Engine Bay above the brake booster going to the wiper motors"
How do I tap into this wire? Any suggested methods?2010 Prado GX 3.0L TD - "Paul" - TJM XGS 40mm Lift Kit, Firestone Coilrite Airbags, 5000kg Rated Front Recovery Points, Sure Power Battery Isolator and Dual Battery Setup, Airtec Snorkel, HID High Beam Headlights.

The easiest way. Skin it, wrap your new wire around it, solder then wrap with electrical tape. For added protection smear a bit of silicon/silasitic over it.
That's how I do it..Blue Storm 150 D4D GXL, Toyota Tow Bar, Cheepo floor mats, Tough Dog Springs & Shocks, Colour Coded TJM T13 steel bar, KingOne winch with rope, GME 3440 80 channel uhf. Not allowed to make hole for snorkel - yet..

Actually, the easiest way is to buy a wire tap connector. Though, I also do as footoo has done when I don't have a wiretap connector handy.

IGN wire in rear of vehicle
Ok, so I have found an ignition wire (similar to the front wiper motor) in the rear. I found it from the rear wiper motor :-)
All the wires going through the flexible conduit into the rear door are black, however up near the motor, then pass through a connector and then regain their colours. I found that the purple wire was live with IGN on only, so i then used the wire tap (post above) and fed a wire back down through the flexible conduit into the car.
Im pretty sure you could trace this wire down to the rear quarter panel if you wanted to, but they are all black there, so identifying it may take two people (instead of running up to the front of the vehicle to turn on and off the ignition.
I then went on to wire this into the 'reverse' pin of the trailer wiring harness, and am using it to trigger a relay to run the 3-way fridge (on 6 b&s).2010 Prado GX 3.0L TD - "Paul" - TJM XGS 40mm Lift Kit, Firestone Coilrite Airbags, 5000kg Rated Front Recovery Points, Sure Power Battery Isolator and Dual Battery Setup, Airtec Snorkel, HID High Beam Headlights.

I think the wire you actually want at this connector is the Sky Blue wire which is the battery supply to the rear wiper motor.
Both the above circuits are protected by individual 15A fuses (WSH RR and WIP RR) supplied from the battery (via a 30 fuse WIP WSH RR) through a relay that only operates when IGN is active.
Fuses and relays are at left hand end area of engine fuse block looking from front of vehicle.
If I am wrong somebody will correct me I hope.
Good luck

Thanks Prone, I'll check it out and see what it does. Do you have a wiring diagram that you are referring to?2010 Prado GX 3.0L TD - "Paul" - TJM XGS 40mm Lift Kit, Firestone Coilrite Airbags, 5000kg Rated Front Recovery Points, Sure Power Battery Isolator and Dual Battery Setup, Airtec Snorkel, HID High Beam Headlights.

Also, the wiper motor will only run if it is grounded through the motor right? Having tapped the wire 'upstream' (ie live) of the wiper motor it shouldn't run should it?
