    Sorry I'm a bit of a basic 12v hack.
A lot of automotive relays draw more than 30mA. Depends on the relay.

Tapping "upstream" would be OK. However the purple wire is downstream of the washer motor. All the switching functions for the rear washer and wiper are done by switching an earth or ground at the wiper switch. The battery supply to the washer motor is a blue wire if you ever find the motor, I'm not sure where it is located. Maybe in engine bay?

The "Sky Blue" wire is the fused battery supply to the wiper motor. Will be at 12V while IGN on.

The purple wire with the ign on will sit at 12V. Operating the rear washers should bring the voltage on this wire down to almost 0V. This would be a good way to check if I am right or wrong.

Saw the wiring diagram some time ago and scribbled a few notes. I have not checked this on my own vehicle. I was looking for 12V supply for similar use to yours.

I may be wrong in my recollection, if so I am sorry.

Guys I have an altitude, and the most annoying thing I have found so far is the fact I can't change / scroll through my songs on USB while driving, it greys the button out while moving!!!

Does any one know which wire where I need to ground to get around this

        Thanks

just wanted to bump this thread, currently looking for "acc on" or "ign sensor wire" for the caravan fridge. Anyone found an easy pick up point at the rear of car.?

            Hi Maxjj,

The following seems to be the easiest pick up of IGN switched 12V at rear of car.

There is a White socket in the Jack compartment that will have the trailer wiring plugged into it.

In the picture below the trailer harness is on the right and the car side wiring is on the left.

There is a thin grey wire up one end opposite the yellow wire and next to the light green wire.

This grey wire is protected by the 7.5A IG1 fuse and is only at 12V when the ignition is on. (I didn't check if it is also on at accessories switch position.) It appears to be unused on my car as there is no wire to it in the mating socket to the trailer loom.

There are a heap of other circuits fed from this fuse so it would be advisable to only use it as a sense circuit and not draw power from it. I intend to tap into it and use a 1Amp fuse to protect upstream circuits.

There is also another grey wire on this socket. Thicker and having permanent 12Volts located in the centre of the socket. Likewise the heavy green wire is also permanent 12V. These wires are protected by 30 Amp fuses "Towing BRK" and "Towing". Not convinced that these wires are capable of anywhere near 30Amp though look way too thin.

            Cheers

Any ideas where to pick up an ignition source wire in the engine compartment near the drivers side headlight? I need it for a BCDC charger ign on sense.

thanks Prone, I ended up picking up a light green cable form the drivers side near the inverter and then ran it across to the other side. There is an unused plug with light green and white cable sitting there. Its scary how thin some of the wires are.

Currently on holidays with the van, so set up is working well. I had the car in the shed for a few days while I fitted towbar, dual battery kit, brake controller, power for van and rear of car.

                    Hi Maxjj,

That plug would be used for the 12v outlet on models without the inverter. It is protected by the 15A p/outlet fuse and is connected in parallel with the other 12v outlets. The white wire should have a black trace.

As you say very thin wire, especially for a 12V power outlet! Where I was working before retirement we used a high spec wire with a very thin insulation which often gave the impression of the wire being lighter than it really was. But not sure if that is the case with the car wiring.

                    Cheers

I am considering adding some LEDs that tie in with the interior lights. What I would like is for the LEDs to slowly illuminate as the interior lights do when you are in proximity.

Anyone know which wire, location and colour?

I have a 2012 GXL Diesel. The is a 2 pin plug below the engine bay fuel filter that is used for the diesel fuel heater in other parts of the world. If you place a relay into the 'FUEL HTR' socket in the fuse box then you will have a 25 amp ignition fed connection at this fuel heater socket. The fuse is already there so just a micro relay can be installed to use this circuit. Very handy for DRLs or any other ignition sourced circuit. The circuit is not active in accessory mode but is active during cranking.

                              KO762 that's a good one.

And I even have a relay that fits. Now to think of a use for it.

There is another source up the front of the car in front of the Radiators but nowhere near as good as yours. Right in the centre of the car in the front of the radiators you will find a 5 pin connector that is unused in cars without the millimetre radar assembly for adaptive cruise control. (Bad luck for those with the high end models!) Pin 5 on this plug, a grey wire with a green trace, has 12v under the same conditions as KO762 method. However it is used by other control systems and only has a 10A fuse. I would not attempt to draw more than an amp out of this source.

If you really need an ignition on 12V source at high current up the front, the KO762 method is the safest. (Now to find the connector to plug into the standard fuel heater connector. I hate cutting and splicing.)

                              Cheers

                                Chipt It:
As a former auto-elec, I was looking for an ignition feed to run DRLs as technically they should be ignition fed rather than accessory powered according to ADR laws. I was surprised that Toyota left that circuit in there with a fuse but no relay, seems a bit odd as from what I can tell this circuit does not supply anything else.

Prone:As for using a relay, if your not using a genuine Toyota relay(blue cap) make sure any generic relay being used has a resistor or diode for spike protecting the rest of the circuit. Also, the plug that your looking for is a largish grey plug that is partially taped to the harness below the fuel filter. Its fairly easy to spot and not very hidden. If you pull the tape off you'll see that it just reaches to the top of the fuel filter where a blank in the aluminium exists for the heating unit.

                                Hope this helps,

                                Ken
