When I replaced my maplight bulbs, I removed the whole light/sunglass holder assembly. From memory, you can insert a blunt blade between the headlining and the plastic assembly and lever it down from the front (windscreen end). Once there is a gap, you can get your fingers in to pull the front down first. Once the front is down you can unclip the back and the whole assembly will come down. Think I had to apply a bit of force, but go easy, as plastic Prado bits are outrageously expensive. The bulb holders just twist out.
    Cheers

      Thanks!
That sounds more scary that leavering off just the cover though.

Ok so after having a better look at the map lights, I could see that the plastic cover has an open end that clips onto the hinge. So all that was needed was to lever from the bottom of the hinge and the plastic cover pops off from the hinge its self quite easily.
All changed and all good! Its really bright inside my prado now! I much prefer the cool white to the standard warm bulbs!!

and for everyones information it was the kit from the led lad.

Yes indeed, there is really no need to remove the whole light and sunglass assembly to change the bulbs. Just a small screw driver and the white plastic lens (the actual light cover that you use to turn the lights on/off) simply clips off with careful prising with a screw driver. The Toyota manual recommends covering the tip of a small screw driver with a small peice of tape to protect from scratching the trim, but eventually I found that you don't really need to bother, just use a small bladed flat screw driver and gently prise and unclip the light lens...very easy, no problem at all.

Is anyone on PP that have upgraded their map lights to LED able to actually read a map at night? I know I am an old fart but with my specs I can read most of the bottom line on the eye test chart but I reckon I would struggle to read a map in my Prado, even with the LEDs.

thats the kit I put in! I love it! The middle dome light has an adapter bulb for a stick on led pad with 24 leds, and that sucker is bright! If I was going to do it again I might contact the guy and ask if I could have another one of those for the rear light above the door instead of the normal led bulb. Would be more expensive but the panel is much much brighter.
I will also admit the map lights aren't crazily bright but I still prefer it over the dull yellow light the standard bulbs put out.
At the end of the day I'm happy with how it is. The prado glows in the dark when I unlock it and all the lights come on bright white.

I may just contact the guy and buy an led panel for the back anyway...assuming it fits...maybe it doesnt and maybe thats why its not in the original kit. That would make the kit perfect for me. I know I did say I was happy with the kit.....but I could be happier if it could be even brighter!

The stick on panel from the LedLad does fit in the rear as that is where I have installed mine as I wanted the most light in the rear.It is really good

great thread, thanks guys. I just contacted the led lad for a 120 kit. Much easier than working our what type of globe for each light! looking forward to fitting up.

Awesome! I'm definitely getting one then! Those suckers put out some good light!

                        I was mistaken earlier, it's not a 24 led panel it's a 48

No problem SOL - got my 120 kit about 3 weeks ago, very happy to replace all the globes in one hit. This photo doesn't justify the improvement, SWMBO just rolled her eyes and said what's wrong with old ones - they just don't get it...

My bro-in-law gave me 2 48LED panels and I put them in the center dome and the rear cargo area. And wow, what a transformation. It's so bright, I can see under the seats! He said he got them for a few dollars each from fleabay.
