  • 120 Rims on a 150

So, I have a 6th rim and tyre as a spare, and in the event the eventual buyer of my 120 does not want the extra rim, will it fit my new 150 GXL as a 2nd spare?

No, not legally due to the offset going the wrong way.

      • Bugger, thanks anyway.
I knew Toyota would not be that kind..

        • As a 6th spare, it would get you out of trouble.

Are you more interested in offroad performance or looks? Because wider tyres don't give you an advantage offroad and larger tyres will mean that you will take a hit in fuel economy.
            Thanks ment4l, for your reply.
Hi Andrew, appreciate your comments and your contribution to this thread.

On/off-road performance and overall practicality are certainly desirables I'd like to achieve. Your comments made me have a long think about my priorities; to be truthful, looks are important. (Sorry if this is cringe-worthy to some) Regarding fuel, I have a work car also so economy is not a deal breaker.

I guess now my concern with the proposed setup is primary in relation to fitment, and 3-fold:

            1. whether the protrusion will be too aggressive, making it impractical?
            2. Will the tyre rub at full lock as in MENT4L's case?
            3. Is a 9" rim too wide for the 150?

            Thanks guys, much appreciated.

            • Hi amts. I have these steel wheels on my 07 GX but nowhere on the rim can I find the offset. Stamped on them is 17x7.5 J. Dot. 8/07. 75SC 8.

Stamped on outside of rim is 820 E

What part of all that indicates offset. Thanks for any help.

I can't see anything that resembles an offset value. Do you have a pic?

                • Hi everyone.

Sorry, but I've just read the first page, and now the last two pages.

I am thinking of buying a trailer/hybrid to tow behind a Gen 1 2013 D4D 150 Kakadu, and am wondering what wheel tyres I should choose for whatever I buy? I presume I'll buy a set of 4 wheels and tyres, which would mean two for the trailer, one spare for the trailer and I guess if I really need to, another spare (likely for the garage though).

What should I buy? As far a the tyres I am using now, they are Coopers, but not the light truck ones. The same size as the standard I think with the same low profile ( I know, low profile is dumb for off road) but only a bit a difficult stuff and pretty rarely.

                  • MP it depends if you want to have interchangeability. You can have the Kaka with a spare or two and the trailer on different wheels with a spare or the whole package where any wheel fits anywhere and a couple of spares. The first is no big deal, fit whatever you want. The second you need to work out what you are going to standardise on and make sure the wheel and offset fit the trailer and are legal on the Prado. With KDSS you can run 18s or drop to 17s with the appropriate offset like some FJ wheels. From what I have seen here unless you get an exceptionally good deal the 18s will be very expensive and you might well pick it a couple of sets of FJ wheels for the same amount and you could flog the 18s and recoup some cash. Just be careful about wheelnuts. The Toyota alloys usually run flange type nuts and not taper and trailers will usually be 1/2" studs not M12 that means you cannot use Toyota wheelnuts. I have just converted my trailer to M12 in preparation to run GXL alloys all round. Ford do imperial flange nuts but I didn't try I found a good deal on M12 studs and took the opportunity to fit new bearings and hubs at the same time.

                    • Thanks MJ. Interesting about the wheel nut issue - never thought of that.

Interestingly as far as selling the Kaka wheels, if selling them is common I might be able to buy some!

I did not realise the Kaka can take a FJ 17" wheel - I had thought it was an 18". But I have heard the FJ ones are very costly.

I'll need to start looking I guess ...

For bush work I'd be better off with the FJ 17" and higher prof light truck coopers or equiv I guess. Not as much fun around town as the current setup though.

                      • Hey MJ
where did you get the studs from?
did they fit the holes in the hub ? or did you have to re drill them?

                        • Razor ALCO stock the M12 studs. Both these and 1/2" studs use a 14mm hole in the hub flange. I didn't reuse my old hubs because for $100 I picked up new drilled hubs, beatings and seals so I shouted the trailer some new bits. The studs punch out easily though, just be careful.

The studs were $1.00 each plus GST.

                          • I did some searching and didnt see many matches

Anyone running FJ cruiser rims on a Prado 150?

Mines a GX hence 17x6.5" ET15 i think and the FJs are the same from what i can see.

                            Anyone confirm factory backspacing?

                            Aftermaket maybe something like this

At least better to put some 265/70s on there than the GX ones
