Re: The 150 series Dual Battery Guide

Hi Brian and you are completely right in what you have just posted, but I suspect there more to why William is posting what he has.

He continually twists info to suit his arguments without ever posting any data to back his statements.

In this case it is not about opinions, it’s about an individual who is trying to make out he is an expert in a field he obviously knows nothing about and if it was just that simple, as I posted, I would have left it at just showing how wrong he was, but he continues to twist replies to try to justify his unsubstantiated claim that my product is “Questionable”

Then when he is caught out, he runs away and hides.

If he or anybody else whats to post up unsubstantiated claims of questionable reliability relating to my products or any other REPUTABLE brand or product, I will respond in a manor best suited to dealing with their comments.

Brian, there are many different brands of battery isolators on the market, and quite a few have been mentioned in this forum, William made no similar comments about any other products, and as his “OPINION” was groundless, why did he attack my product in the first place?

Last but not least, I have no issues with your replies and I see no need to hide my contempt for people like William when they deliberately set out to deceive other members of this or any other forum.

For the benefit of everybody else, I will leave it at that unless someone has a question, or posts another unwarranted comment.

Re: The 150 series Dual Battery Guide

Brains, I absolutely agree with what you've said. So, I welcome anyone to read through all my posts in regards to the dual battery setup. I'm merely identifying my options and deciding on which best suits my requirements based on my opinion.

I don't have any alterior motives as drivesafe may think. I'm just a regular joe who's looking at the many dual battery options out there - isn't that what we all do when buying something? The Traxide SC80 isolator was picked out by me as I genuinely thought it provided the ability of increasing the amount of usable battery power whilst camped idle for 4 nights - no other isolator to my knowledge provides this option. I merely stated that it was questionable that the isolator would be reliable in that it allows the starter battery to discharge to 50% SOC. I own a diesel engine prado 150 which requires a higher cold cranking amp rating than petrol engine 150 series, so naturally I question the battery's ability to crank (start) the engine at 50% SOC. The bottom line is I'm entitled to an opionion on any product I look at and I will make my own judgement in deciding on which product to buy. I will not be bullied by a salesman into buying their product.

I suppose drivesafe is paranoid that I'm trying to taint his isolator's reputation or that I'm conspiring with his competitors as I've chosen to buy components from ARB sidewinder, redarc and ARB. The question is: why would I waste my time doing so? I have no motive. I'm just a Sidewinder, redarc and ARB customer, and I enjoy their quality, prices and after sales support - nothing more.

Last I checked, drivesafe doesn't even own a Prado (but a 08 range rover apparently). Most people on this forum either own a Prado, or are looking into getting one - so why is he here exactly? Of the 100 or so posts he has made, most are "get thicker cable" comments, promoting his product, bad mouthing his competition or trolling (creating arguments, attacking members and ruining what was a helpful thread). Drivesafe has had heated arguments with several members on PradoPoint and ruined threads, including another similar dual battery thread in the 150 series section.

Drivesafe, you shouldn't have to defend your product or attack potential customers because they choose another product over yours or have doubts about your product. That's just bad business practice and the arguing is not in the spirit of what PradoPoint is all about. A little advice, posting such content only ruins you and your products reputation. I'm not out to get you or taint your product - and if I was, this surely wouldn't be the approach I'd take.

Matty & Loz, moderators and fellow pradopointers, I apologies that this has come this far. It will be my last post on this matter regardless of what drivesafe replies with. You all know my position so I urge everyone to please stick to the topic. If anybody has any off topic comments, please conduct them via PM. Please ignore the last few posts that have been made and move on. For the benefit of 150 series owners who are planning on installing a dual battery system, I will continue to update the original post for tray and battery compatibilities as well as include my own setup (once I gather the components)

        Cheers

Re: The 150 series Dual Battery Guide

My apologies William, was not aware that one had to own a Toyota before one could post on this forum, nor did I know that owning a Toyota gave you a special right to deliberately mislead other Toyota owners on this site.

Your are also correct about me arguing with others, who deliberately set out to post up misleading info, you conveniently left that bit out.

And you have not given a single reason for making this statement in the first place.

“Traxide isn't as well known as the Redarc and hence reliability is questionable”

You slander my product without giving a single reason why, IN YOUR LEARNED OPINION, this product is supposed to be “Questionable”.

You then elect to install a grossly inferior cabling kit that has every potential of nullifying the use of any type of isolator.

The only thing in this thread that is obviously questionable, is you knowledge of the subject you posted this thread about.

BTW, the fact that you are continuing to post misleading info like “you enjoy the quality of the products you purchase” when in reality, you wouldn’t know poor quality if it jumped up and shook you hand and as such, means this reply is on subject.

Back on topic, I am looking for a tray. I have narrowed down to the ARB and the Offroad Downunder one as I had one in my last Prado. There is a lot of info on the ARB, but has anyone tried the OD one? Interested in your thoughts?

Neve heard of the OD. I can vouch for the ARB one though. What is making you consider the OD? Is it the price? If so how much do they go for? The ARB one goes for 142 at the shop without haggling.

                  Cheers

I have found the ARB on on eBay for $165 and the Offroad Downunder one for $145. $20 I am not too worried about. But I just know that a few of us here had the OD ones in there 120's. Just wanting to get an idea if anyone had the OD one in the 150s

Alright my take on this given the pics on the eBay site is.....

Regardless of the tray you get, if you plan on putting in an amptech or allrounder 80ah the knob on the a/c pipe will rub on the side of the battery (depends on the angle of which the knob sticks out). Not sure what battery they are using in the picture but it isn't either of the aforementioned batteries. If it is, they definitely shifted the aircon pipe across. One thing I like about the OD is that it has a rubber base, but again, not sure how good that is given the clamps would eliminate the vibration anyway. Another thing I noticed is that the arb tray has a place to mount the red arc isolator whereas the OD doesn't.

By the way, you can call up any arb reseller and they will quote you $142.

                        Cheers

Thanks for the assessment William, guess I will go for the ARB one. I spose if I wanted a rubber mat for the battery I could always make one out of some insertion rubber...

                            Hi all,

I'm after suggestions for a dual battery setup on my 150 TD GXL. I've been digging around and while aspects of this have been covered in various threads but I'm still not sure if it's the way to go.

I'm looking into the advantages / disadvantages of moving the main battery to the driver's side to allow a larger aux to be installed on the passenger's side. Currently leaning towards the ABR kit but with the wiring run across the radiator.

                            1. Will the voltage drop over the extended wiring from the main to the starter be enough of a concern to forget the whole idea? From memory, Brains added ~1100mm but this was with the aux on the driver's side.

                            2. I believe the Sidewinder tray will fit the factory battery on the driver's side without moving the AC pipe (just bending the bracket). Anyone used this tray with the factory battery on the driver's side?

                            3. Extending the main battery wiring. Is this just a matter of removing the terminal clamps from the factory loom and connecting correct size cable (25mm2?) lug to lug? Any additional fuses required for the main battery wiring extension?

                            4. Any major concerns with connecting a high CCA AGM aux to a winch?

                            5. Is an N70 the largest size that will fit in the passenger's side? If anyone's fitted larger could you please post some pics.

...or...do I just say "f*ck it!!" and get it installed by someone who does this for a living?

                            Cheers

                                1. No - if you use 25mm2 wire you will be fine
                                2. Don't know
                                3. You can get away with that as long you don't have a high resistance joint. Make sure you have the joint well insulated when finished. You don't have fuses as it would be pointless with the amount of starting current drawn from the battery when starting.
                                4. No. Should be fine
                                5. Don't know.

Your choice on the last but if you have access to tools, etc, it is more satisfying to do it yourself.
