    Great job on the install!
i have to do mine in the next month.
1 tip - spin the hole saw in reverse to create an 'edge' than flick forward and cut, it stops the hole saw from 'wandering' over your nice qtr panel. we use this technique regularly on thin gauge sheet at work.

I decided to get TJM to install the better looking airtech model, especially when it was supplied and fitted for less than just buying a safari on its own, $461 and didn't have to do chit or buy $100 worth of saws that I'll never use again.

But well done all the same!

Thanks for posting this great writeup! Well done

I much prefer the functionality of the Safari Snorkel (I want to be able to use a Donaldson pre-cleaner) and I'm a bit wary of some of shops not putting the same level of care and attention into the task as I might... Have seen enough posts about no rust sealing, loose bolts or hose clamps, etc, etc... Probably fair to say you choosing to self-install was for the same reasons?

Do you mind sharing a few details?
        • Roughly how much you saved by doing this install yourself?
        • With the oval hose, do you think maybe pre-gluing or perhaps melting in a couple of bumps to the snorkel would help prevent the hose clamp sliding off?
        • Do you recall the part number for the plastic clips?

As for the 89mm hole. You can pre-drill the pilot holes before putting the holesaw in. That way you can ease the holesaw in and use very light pressure to get the hole started. I usually lean holesaws very slightly to one side and literally just touch the surface to cut a little track for the holesaw to rest in, then level out the other side to finish the circle. It's basically a different way of doing what Jordan suggested (which is probably a better suggestion).

Step drill bits are fantastic! The larger ones are great if you already have a fairly large hole and need to make it bigger. I usually get the cheapo ones from Bunnings

          Nice write up mate.

Do you recall the part number for the plastic clips?
AK7 - Check out the pic below, I believe the clips you are after are the number 3 clips in this pic so the part number is 90189-06065

          Hope that helps.

I managed to get my clips out and reuse them. (Only because I hadn't thought to buy new ones so had no choice!)

If you use a small jewellers screwdriver you can lever the plastic barb inwards and remove the clip. It's a tedious job for so many clips and next time I'd just replace them but you can reuse them if you have to.

Good write up but don't you need to use the black sensor-friendly silicone as the sealer?

Thanks for the excellent guide. It was a google search on this topic that lead me to the forums initially.
I did the holes for mine yesterday & it all went as smoothly as your guide indicates.

Question: Is there a prefered sealant anybody recommends? My concerns are plastic to rubber bonding & a sealant that won't crack with time. Something that remains inherently flexible would be ideal I would imagine.

                Thanks once again.

My uneducated go-to would be a flexible urethane adhesive. Not sure specifically which one, but there are some great ones designed to handle vibrations, variation in heat and also adhere to a variety of surfaces.

There's several sikaflex products that would fit that bill.
We are using a product called Bostik Matrix FC at work as an adhesive and sealant at work. It's good stuff...

I just got a 10 pack prior to starting, cost $19 all up well worth it, managed to save 3 old clips and just used a screw driver and side cutters to sever the others, There is 13 all up if you want the guard out, which I found helped a lot

Things to look out for, buring paint from step drill bit and grinder to ovel opening. Filed all the burnt paint out and re sealed.
Top hole has structure behind it so step drill bit may be too long. Probably don't need M16 holes I would start with M12 you can always go bigger
Oval connection is bad design was a pain to tighten hose clamp.

The prefered sealant is sika 227 avalible at Bunnings it's Automotive grade fast cure sensor friendly

Anyone know the theory behind the oval fitting. Will do this in the coming weeks and looks like a pig. I havent pulled out the spash guard, i assume there is some obstruction inside the guard that means they couldnt run the snorkel full length down the outside and straight into the airbox removing the need for the rubber S bend.
