I took the plunge and ordered a set of the Outback Ideas recovery points. They arrived today and I was happy to see a modified nut welded to a small plate and piece of wire that should help when installing them without removeing the bar entirely.

I'm going to have a go at fitting them on the weekend. Hope all goes well.

      Hi VX Westy

I have them installed and lets hope that we never need to use them unless we need to pull another brand of 4ourby out.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Yes, you'll find them on eBay.

I got mine on eBay from FNB4WD - $120 I think they were and I asked a couple of questions and he was really helpful. They are nice and solid. I have the standard plastic bumper and didn't look forward to removing it to fit tow points, but then discovered the wire is good, feeding the plate down the chassis rail from the square cutout in the chassis then trying to hold it firm enough to get a bolt through the tow point and lined up with the nut in the plate was a bit fiddly.

Very happy, much more sound and reassuring than the tie down hooks

Are these the ones everyone is buying and having success with? Will they clash with an ARB deluxe steel bar?

I'm pretty sure they will fit with the ARB Deluxe, but bet to check with other PP members.

                    Cheers,

These ones are branded as Boss4, I'm not sure who makes them. I would also like to know if they would clash with a TJM T13 bar.

I also found these ones as an alternative :-

They look the same shape as the Outback ideas ones, close enough in fact that they may just be rebranded. The outback ideas ones fit with the ARB Deluxe winch bar. I've got a picture in my rig build up thread of them fitted. I suspect these will be the same design and would also fit with the bar.

I'm actually liking those Road Safe 4WD ones I found on eBay; the elongated holes on the front seem well suited to use of an equaliser strap. The seller Everything 4WD has a storefront in Cranbourne Vic so it shouldn't be too hard for me to have a gander at them before purchasing a set. I was advised they would fit my bar and can be self-installed; like the OI ones it's a little fiddly I'm told.

Love to see some pics when you get them on fido. Haven't seen any on a tjm bar yet.

I have read the discussions on the recovery points in both the 120 and 150 threads and I haven't come across any mention of air bag compliance, unless I have missed it.

I am curious if there are crumple or compression points in the chassis rail that are part of the air bag system that might be being bolted over and "reinforced" with recovery points. I don't know how the bull bars are made to comply with air bag requirements, but I am wondering what effect the bolt on after market recovery points may have on air bags deployment and subsequent insurance claims.
