Wonder how much the Powerful 4x4 steps will be.

On their website they have the sliders at $799 & the brush bars at $200

I would certainly consider offers on my Toyota steps when I get the sliders.

Not attractive to this GX owner. I had a 120 GXL and bent the OE side steps. So this time I couldn't see the point in paying around 10 grand extra for aluminium side steps, plastic roof rails, third row seats, reduced cargo area, fog lights (which you get in the ARB bullbar anyway), reversing camera, and a leather covered gear shift knob - all good for the soccer mums but of no value to me! By the way my OAQ side steps still haven't arrived after three weeks - of course it's the courier company's fault. Looks like we may have to delay our trip departure for the north west until they arrive. Grrr.

I saw a set go for about 150 on ebay a while back. they're a bit worthless really.

Yeah I'm the same, I wanted the cargo capacity of the GX, but liked all the extras in the GXL and with the price they gave me, I was sold, I can just pull all the seats out anyway.

also, ARB wont have any steel sidesteps/sliders for a long time according to the guy i spoke to recently.

I got a set of Opposite Lock steps and rails on mine. Ordered Ironman ones to go with the bar but they weren't able to provide them so Andrew at OL Dubbo tracked down the Opposite Lock branded ones. We had to extend the side rails by about 30mm to suit the Ironman bar but OL are now making a very similar looking bar which they'd match up to nicely. Very happy with them. Have sat the car on them a couple of times now and apart from a bit of missing paint, not marks at all.
Check out my rig build up for some pics of them.

Our side steps are used as brush bars so they would be useless if they we connected to the airbag sensors, they would go off every time you scrub against something.

Well it certainly has been a hard slog getting some steel steps. So I have now gone to a fabricator & after speaking with him today................ SUCCESS!!!!!!!!! only they are aluminium which is about 4.2 mm thick & is high tensile rated at 36% stronger than the steel ones that they used to make. They stopped making the steel ones when they got this high tensile aluminium.

It looks like my search is over, I spoke with my insurers today & they said go for it & that yes I was covered for steps & brush bars.
A mate of mine referred me to him, so I am getting a pretty good deal as well.
I will put up some pics when the deeds done.

Thanks to all who put up links & suggestions, I appreciate it.

                    Cheers

It shows me they have no idea what they are talking about! Connecting sensors to the bars! Yer right.
They just have to not impede the way the airbags are deployed.

as soon as you install something not standard there you have changed the characteristics of how the air bag sensor will activate (or not).

Airbags rely on crush rate sensors that are installed in various areas of the car relating to the impact. Therefore if you alter the time that the sensors are activated by mods such as steel sliders then you will change the reaction time for the airbags. You won't stop them going off just the time it takes will be longer. This is measured in milliseconds but if its your loved one on that side then you are the judge of the value of a bent panel vs a injured loved one. For me bent panels are replacable.

                          Regards, Richo.

Reading the latest 4wd Action this morning and noticed that Powerful 4x4 have sliders advertised for the 150 that are apparently airbag compatible.

Sent them an email to confirm pricing.

EDIT: Had a reply. $799.00 per pair airbag compatible. They are doing a photo shoot this week apparently.

EDIT 2: Regarding the airbag compatibility - "From our research we are the only ones in the world at this point in time that passed the side impact airbag testing. All testing done in South Australia by Automotive Safety Engineering, they do the tests and ADR for all the companies including Toyota."

I would have thought that a semi-rigid side bar would transfer the crash force QUICKER to the car (as the bar wouldn't deform as fast or as much as the car would, with the same force hitting the car), and the crush rate sensor would therefore trigger quicker too. This means that the airbag would actually go off sooner, than without one...
