I used the output from the switch as the +12V and metal behind the stereo as Earth. If you hook these up to the red and black at the end near the RCA plug, they should flow through all the way to the camera and you can probably cut off those other red and black ones that come out of the plug.
Yes the sheathed wire should be the video signal.

You can do it with one relay if you add another diode or two to replace the reverse sense relay, This may make it a bit simpler. There should be a 1 Amp fuse in the 12V supply to the switch. (The diode on the right is not really required but I added it for extra isolation.)

Sorry about the rough alteration, it was quicker and easier to alter in "paint" rather than find a circuit drawing program.

      Cheers

Cool Prone, looks like it will work. Where were you when I was asking for feedback way back when ?!
Although, the diode legs are really weak and when pushed in behind the stereo can break easily. So unless some physical protection is provided for them, the extra relay may be more robust.

          Hi Maulbeagle,

Gulf country north west Queensland I think. And/or between there Broome and Hobart.

Been looking at doing similar to add camera on back of van and have camera on when I want it.

Agree about the diodes, I was thinking of mounting them on the back of the switch with very short leads and supported with glue lined heatshrink. The reverse sense diode may be a bit harder to secure but if the sense wire is cut and the diode spliced in then supported with heatshrink it may be OK.

Could probably use diodes to switch the video as well... No, wont go there.

          Cheers

Nice work Prone. Where did you draw power from for the switch Maulbeagle? I checked the camera wiring last night and now realise the red and black wires that were on the RCA plug are connected to the other red and black wires that come from the junction near the camera end, so I see what you're saying about cutting those off and just using the wires from the RCA plug to supply power to the camera.

Just want to make sure I've got this all straight in my head before I go pulling my dash apart and start cutting wires!

Why not use a double pole switch such as this instead of relay? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/301301790...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Edit: On reflection with the switch you will not have manual selection of existing reverse camera but if that is not required it is a simpler setup.

Great post, some excellent information. I've just about finished the mod, I've got the rear camera working off a switch (air onboard, see pic), front camera mounted in the logo on the grill and it displays on my hema navigator via the video input.

I ended up building the circuit on a board and putting connectors either end for neatness and ease of mounting. Will dig up some photos and post them.

I have one query though, I have a 2013 (pre-facelift) altitude with the VX roof mounted dvd system. I can't find the video feed to the headset and am a bit scared of playing sidecutter Russian roulette.
Has anyone sorted this or know of a way to test which wire has the feed, I've tried poking around with a wire connected to a video screen but have only managed a blown fuse so far.

Found some photos of the circuit board and box I made as well as the switch installed in the dash.

                      Hi people
I've just bought myself a 2013 SX 3 door. Looking to do just what this thread seems to be describing i.e. be able to display output from a caravan mounted camera while driving along and switch between this and normal mode of the screen via some switch.
Am I reading the thread right? Do the vehicles described here have the same multifunction screen setup as my SX?
                      cheers

Hi all. I have made an module that will add a front camera to the radio in Prado 150 GLX. I have 2 push buttons that operate the cameras. When both switches are off, the camera is operating as normal operation when the reverse in on. You can force the rear camera to come on at any time and front on at any time.
If any one requires more info in the kit to msg me.

                            Hi all.

I've just taken delivery of one of melbpat's modules shown in post #56 above. It's a fantastically well made bit of kit. Now just need to wait for the camera to arrive.

In the interim, I'm just planning out which 2 wires I need to cut. I know I need to cut the rear camera signal wire which is nicely shown in posts #35 and #36, but does anyone know which wire is the reverse signal? Is there one behind the radio or do you need to get to it from somewhere else? A photo or good description of the plug location and wire colour would be greatly appreciated.

                            Thanks!
