No worries Hollywood, looks nice and neat. I don't have time to go through it with a fine-toothed comb right now but as long as the connections are all the same it should be fine !
Now I just have to get around to wiring up that front camera.

I was about to ask how you went with it in the end!

I'm still a little confused as to how the front camera feed is actually wired in.

What is the purpose of the red 'reverse signal' wire? When it is powered, either by selecting reverse or by this concept we're discussing, does it just change the screen to the video screen instead of the normal trip computer screen?

Below is a pic of the camera and associated wiring that Tin175 said he used. Looking at the wiring I gather the camera requires a power supply from somewhere (Any ideas?) and then you connect the video feed (yellow plug) into the relay that switches between the feeds for the screen? Sounds simple enough but the yellow plug appears to have two wires (red and black) going into it. Assuming we're cutting off the yellow plug, do you need to connect both of those wires?? Has anyone got a pic of the plug and wires that provide the actual video feed to the screen?

Hi Hollywood, sorry for the delay again, my subscriptions aren't notifying me sometimes when a thread is updated.
Yes you will need to cut off the yellow RCA plug, then connect the centre wire (connected to the centre pin on the RCA plug) to the relay that sends the video signal to the screen.

Tin175 (or others), once the reverse signal is supplied to the screen to fool it into thinking reverse gear is selected, do the black and white wires (from the 4 wire bundle of red, purple, white, black on the camera connector) then supply the power to the camera ?
If not, where did you get the power from for the front camera ?

          Thanks !

OK everyone, you can thank me later, as I've just cut several wires in the factory stereo looms that didn't need cutting ... all in the name of PradoPoint knowledge !

The facelift (2014 in my case) GXL has a plug with 2 video feeds, neither of these are the correct ones. I assume these must be the Aux and A/V feeds.
There is a plug on the back of the stereo which only has 6 wires: Green, Blue, Orange, White, Black, Red.
The RED wire is the signal wire from the factory rear camera. This is the wire we need to tap into for adding a second video feed via a relay.
Picture below shows the wire in a green box, already cut. This picture was taken with the stereo pulled out, looking down from above.

Now to wire it through the relay and hook up to the switch ... Once the kids are in bed.

another picture of the plug, a clearer view. plug in the green box is the one we want, NOT the one to the left which has 2 separate video feeds.

So the white and black wires seem to carry 6.0 V (black positive, white negative), regardless of whether the reverse signal is applied or not.
I assume this is the stereo supplying 6V to power the camera. Just need to check if the camera I bought is 6 or 12V to see whether or not I can use this power supply.

Does anyone know if a facelift GXL will accept a PAL video signal? The start of this thread says it has to be NTSC.

Yes it can accept PAL or NTSC. Go into the settings on the screen to change it.

                      Great Success !
I can confirm the above wiring diagrams work. I now have the 3 way switch controlling front camera on demand (up on the switch), factory view (switch off/middle position), and rear camera on demand (switch down).

So is the red wire the video feed from the rear camera?

                            yep. from above:

OK, mate, thanks for that. Glad to see it all works, my trade school electrical teacher would be proud I finally figured this electrical wizardry out!

Stoked that this concept works Maulbeagle! Can you confirm a couple of things for me? I had a look at my camera wiring yesterday, see below. I see there is a positive and negative for the power supply for the camera, where did you get the power for the camera from, I'm presuming somewhere in the engine bay? Also, I've cut the RCA plug off and there were three wires connected to the plug, red, black and one with a clear sheath that was connected to the centre pin of the RCA plug. Are the red and black one surplus to requirements and we just connect the clear sheathed wire to the relay supplying the feed to the screen?
