  • Rear door not locking

    Hi
I've noticed sometimes that if I lock the car using the sensor on the door handle or the black pushbutton on the rear door that the beeper doesn't sound and the 4 doors lock but not the back door . Then trying to unlock and again the beeper doesn't sound but the 4 x doors unlock .
I've now found that if it's locked and unlocked with the remote all's ok . My previous 150 was fine , you could use either the remote and or door buttons no prob's .
The manual only mentions changing the setup so the driver's door or all the doors are controlled , no mention of the back door .
    Any ideas please ?

    Cheers
    Ross

    Hi vk2ss55
    (my 1st Post)
My 150 does the same, very now and again. Toyota cant find the solve the problem and have ordered me a new rear door lock. Have you solved the problem with yours?

I had a similar problem and I ended up working out that when the back door wouldn't lock was when the cargo blind was extended and the ribbing on the end of the blind fouled the door lock preventing it from locking, didnt happen all the time and mainly in colder weather when the blind ribbing was at its stiffest. Might not be your problem though.

Yes! I remember this problem too when I first got the vehicle. Made it a bit useless.

          Thanks JPM21
You are absolutely correct, it’s a design issue with the cover. I am glad you alerted me to the issue. It saved Toyota mucking with the rear door lock. How did you/Toyota fix it, or do you just remember to push it up before you close the door with the rear cover closed?

Everytime I tried to show Toyota it wouldn't do it, I should have recorded it on my phone to show them. I then sold that 150 not because of that lol. I havent checked with my current truck as I took it out as I use the third row seating reasonably frequently lately and having the cargo blind there is a pain in the right royal. Getting Toyota to arrange for a motor trimmer to reduce the excess ribbing would probably solve the problem. Cheers

That has solved a massive frustration for me. I also had a dealer look at it and it wouldn't fault. Just went out to the garage and testd the theory. Retracted the blind and no issue. I can see where the edge of the blind is getting rubbed by the lock.
Will have another look in daylight and see what I can do to modify the blind.

I was wondering why I haven't had the no locking problem for some time but you guys have answered it for me . I've had the cargo blind out as I've been carting stuff about ...there you go !

Toyota Australia are trialing a fix for this item on my Prado. It should eliminate the 'rear door not locking' issue. As of yesterday, so far so good.

Ahh. Thank you forum. I suspect this is my issue. Jelly. What was the FIX?? It's going back tomorrow to Brighton. But pointing hem in the right direction may help.

Brighton Toyota said they have heard of the issue, and will LOG another report, but dont have a company provided fix yet..

their advice , don't use the cargo blind..

so, does anyone have a Toyota provided fix, anyone have a Toyota service notice? anyone got a better outcome with toyota? anyone been able to resolve the issue with toyota? the car is 2 days old, with the cargo blind in place, the car will either have the back door locked (unable to be opened), or unlocked (wont unlock), not really impressed.

if not, might be raised with fair claims tribunal - this isn't FIT FOR Purpose..

This fault starts appearance in my Prado after the first service! Agreed that this is not fit for purpose.

                          Rear door lock problem fixed.

I had the same problem - occasional failure to lock the tailgate when the cargo blind was in use.

I took it in to Toyota who said it was a known (intermittent) problem. They had a 'fiddle' with it at the time and all was working, but said to bring it back if the problem persisted.

It did persist and Toyota did fix it ... by changing the lugs on the cargo blind.

Nearly a week (!) now and no further problems.

                          cheers

                          UPDATE

Had a 'failure to lock' again but now know what Toyota did. The rear blind lugs were 'chamfered' so that the rear most flap on the blind (the bit between the lugs and the rear door) can be tilted down about 45 degrees.

When tilted down, the door locks. If not tilted down, it mostly fails to lock.
