Is it worth buying a K&N air filter,is there a real benifit in doing so? Im keen to try one in my 120 V6 Grande but thought I would first find out if its really worth it?
cheers.

I felt like it did back when it was in stalled, but haven't cleaned it once since install till now
have rotated the new stock filter a few times , to get a sense of what diff its makes in mileage?
but towing loads vary each time , fuel costs vary each time, so
" its just a opinion , but i believe you get a performance increase with a clean K&N for the first 1000kays
but added performance means you might enjoy the power a bit more and use a bit more fuel
= no gain = heaps of fun .. and makes a difference when clean, downside is a new K&N is well over oiled
this time the cleaned K&N lightly oiled should allow more air flow. M.A.F cleaned and re-clean ( after next road trip to remove sucked thro oil )
its not what you should do , but I would like to remove the fine mesh on the air filter body and that will allow heaps more air but risk contaminating the inlet tubing of the throttle body with dust... that's the hold point as that mesh does a good job... so I haven't done that (yet)
I knew I'd need some cold / fresh air soon, that time is here.. when i cleaned and replaced the K&N and M.A.F , kicked it in the gutz it splutters at first but within a few idling min. its back to a lumpier note than prior to the clean.. If you have a snorkel , the force of air thro a standard filter would do fine in my opinion,, but if you are sensitive to the power curve of you rig under a steady foot you do notice the benefits.. and it is visable on the tacho when it hits that sweet spot and the revs increse quicker. with out applying more gas.. then change gear..
if your driving style is to feed the pedal down for rev increase then change at you mark, you might notice the diff , but i doubt you'd feel it
dont know if my opinion helps , but its just how I feel .. I run the K&N normally but have a new, Stock to switch,, It's A K&N till i evan find out whats better, but i will clean mine more regularly more... Cheers mate , time for a coldie. xxxx Butane
finally removed the fine mesh in the air cleaner box
Its been a while ,since my post and plenty more kays to play with the K&N
so i finally remove the mesh in the air box and i think so far its made a positive difference with my set up
I change between the K&n and paper alot , usually go the paper if going off the black stuff but most of the time its the k&n
I used to get that sucking sound from the k&n when you free rev it in the driveway, but its alot quieter now with the mesh removed and seems to be running a grey exhaust tip again , maf always cleaned every 4000 ks , running 91 oct always now
I dont do alot of dust kms so its more a tar tow rig to me and is still quite healthy
( would not remove the mesh if you do alot of dirt road runs but it popped out easily and wasn't damaged could be replaced if i Want )
Cheers Butane

Great to know Butane.
I run a K&N as well on the black stuff and swap over to the paper filter when running offroad.
Don't currently have a snorkel and I've always wanted to take out the mesh, but don't know the ramifications,
but I guess a good filter should keep out most of the crap.
I put a k and n high flow air filter in a week after I first got my prado as well as denso iridium plugs and a new belt.
After putting the new filter in it didn't feel the same, like a bit less power. Not sure if it was just the filter or the fact I was just getting used to the power.
Fuel consumption is around 13.7/100 so I'm happy with that for now.

Hi Adam
Have you still got the part numbers for the Denso Iridium plugs?
Cheers
