Picture title :- Dwarfed by a stunning giant Karri (about 400yrs old).
Location :- Warren NP Western Australia.
Description :- Karri trees are the third tallest species in the world reaching a max of 90mtrs.
Near Pemberton WA - In Gloucester NP and Warren NP there are two Karri trees, the Gloucester Tree 58mtrs (200ft) height and 7.3mtrs (24ft) girth & the Dave Evans
Bicentennial Tree 68mtrs, respectively, that are “pegged” and possible to climb (I did). These two trees are used as fire lookouts.
We came upon this specimen tree in Warren NP when approaching ‘Drafty’s camp’ which was one of the best NP sites for facilities we have used – a huge undercover
kitchen area with s/s bench surfaces, free gas stoves and hot plates, 2 double sinks and running tap water (not potable); several permissible fire places - timber supplied,
shady sites, a river to swim or canoe in with several spots to launch or
sit and view by way of metal stairs going into the river; four spotless long drops. Non bookable – first come first served basis. I am sure some of our readers will appreciate
this info! ENJOY like we did!
Squelch.
