Davenreef & Barcode I didn't get around to it this weekend gone as my wife had me doing other things!!! Gotta love them lol but I can assure you the min I have it in I will be putting pics and comments on here. All my mates think it is going to be a good thing.. The only thing I have done is bought different aerials for the tv. I got some off eBay which I have listed below, as the ones that come with the unit are rather big and I am not sure where I would put them in the car or outside the car without looking like a tool! Unless you guys have any ideas. The ones I have bought a slim line, but not sure yet if they will work as well so I will also let you know.

OH and I might change the speakers as well just not sure what to get for that so suggestions?

Sorry cant help too much with tv side of things as I nit getting model with tv. But speakers I can start to help - or lack of. I have my door trims of at moment as got windows tinted and the speaker setup is very odd. I have seen 2 car stereo mobs so far who were not willing to do anything about it as they couldn't match up a speaker mount to be the same as stock. I will try to post a pic later but hopefully someone else has already done it to save us some time. I was just going to fit unit and keep speakers until a later date but would love to do them at same time if I can.

There is another post on here about making a surrounding fitting plate for the front speakers as they are an odd size. Didn't look too hard. Good call on doing them while have door trim off. Having windows done in two weeks.....

This is a great topic of which I have done some research, the eBay option looks good but people I know have had problems with different models with different wiring looms, but is not impossible to fit and insult.
You Tube has got a lot of information how to remove a old unit from the camry and prado, so if your game, give it a go.
When it is time for me, I am choosing to go with a GPS Polaris, cut and paste into web browser if hype link doesn't work
          http://www.polarisgps.com.au/index1.html
which do a unit that that fits most models and come with navigation, rear vision, bluetooth, iPod, Radio, DVD, Mp3,USB, Aux, V-CDC and extra options of Steering access, TPMS(tyre management) and HEMA maps.
Research has told me that the onboard GPS can be a little slow, but most of us has them all ready in place in our vehicles. The other great thing, is that their are installers in Capital cities and can take to pressure out of the insulting process, overall cost is around $2000, this suits me but not everyone

That's cool Warbie, But $1295 + install is a fair bit considering I paid just $530. Haven't installed it yet but have done quite a few in the past and they aren't rocket science, Or I have been quoted just $220 to have it professionally installed. + there are many step by step instructions on here and other sites if I run into trouble. Thanks for the link to another great product tho, I can see that they are a fantastic, proven product...just a little on the rich side for little ol me.

OK, So I finally got a chance to install the Stereo. Fits great, Easy install, everything works as per add. Very Happy. I haven't installed the rear camera due to my Prado being a 2006 which doesn't have the rear camera cables already in place and I didn't feel like running the cables myself today. install took about an hour

These are great units I finally installed mine and I'm over the moon with it!!!! The menu is clear and easy to use which makes life easy. When connecting your iPod via the cable provided it displays the song and it's easy to manage. You can also play your iPod through the Bluetooth although the volume and quality of the songs aren't as good as the cable it's still pretty good.
The tv is great an the the sat nav is really easy to use... The sound from the standard speakers with this head unit is great.
You do need to go in and change the bass, teen etc when you are in each mode eg when you on iPod you change it to what you want then when your on radio you do it again and so on but once it's set you won't need to do it again. As for the built in mic I haven't had one person complain of feedback or that they can't hear me so that's also a winner..

Well worth it make get out there and get one!! I'll upload some pics tomorrow for ya

                    Hey Davenreef

Just a quick one for ya! When you had the dash apart and put in the new head unit did all the screw holes match up? Also where did you shove all those wires as there isn't much room behind the head unit.... The only reason I ask is I can't fit mine in properly as in there is too much stuff behind and I can't seem to make the dash all sit back flush!! It's driving me crazy

Hey Paddy81, I found quite a bit of room for the wiring loom behind the clock(above the unit). I had a long screwdriver that I used to hold the loom towards the back while I positioned the New unit back into position. Yes the holes matched almost perfectly, a little push to get the top rear ones in line but they went together fine in the end.

As you said, all menu functions work great and are easy to use. I was wondering about the different sound settings, I hadn't played too much but looks like i'll need to set them all up manually. Yes the sound is much better with the original speakers. One Question?--I think I must have missed the Handbrake cable as mine didn't come with any instructions....Is there a bypass in the menu settings that you know of? Or do I have to pull it out to get the DVD/ USB movies working? at the moment all I get is a blue screen :-(

Barcode - The iPod control is ok, Personally I prefer to use my iPhone in it's cradle, the UI is much smoother and I am happy with the bluetooth sound for my music. I've run the iPod cable down behind the unit and drilled a hole in the back of the ash tray and have the cable sitting in with my spare change, just in case.

Can I ask what iPhone you have and therefore what cradle you are using. And how is it connected to the head unit. For the iPod control providing it has shuffle and the forward or back for song then I am more than happy. Thanks for all the info guys. Looks like a purchase coming up

                            Hey again Davenreef

I connected the handbrake wire which from memory was the pink one to earth. That basically bypasses the handbrake so you can drive while watching a movie etc. I just screwed it into one if the screw points near by and it works perfect.

As for the sound you will have to adjust them separately. Will have a look tomorrow if your not sure how to do it and upload some pics with examples to make it easier to understand.

I drilled a hole in the glove box where the manuals go in that top section and popped the wire in there just in case I use it one day and that way it's hidden.

The one thing I'm going to try is buying another two GPS aerials ad connecting them to the unit for the tv instead of the ones they provided! That was I can stick them on the windscreen and hopefully they will work giving me better reception... Not sure if GPS aerials work the same way though.. If anyone out there knows give me a bell so joint waste my time wiring it all up again to find they don't work !!!!!!

Rudiedj I'm not sure what the Gavman, navman etc are like as I've never had one of those but these have the latest maps of Melb (inc new freeways) and are really easy to use and understand. It even tells you all the red light and speed camera locations. It beeps if your speeding coming up to a speed camera and once your back under the speed limit it stops. Not that I speed lol and it's awesome to check if your speedo is working or not. Mine is 1 klm higher reading on the dash as to the GPS which I'm happy with

Thanks Paddy for the advice on the pink wire! worked a charm...Damn pink bits!! . all good now.

Barcode, Yes there is all the features you wanted on either the iPod connection or bluetooth. Skip forward and back and pause/play.
I've got iPhone 4 and a carcomm iphone cradle. Have it mounted beside the drivers side middle vent for easy access right near the stereo. It is just a charging cradle as i cannot get music through the head unit via the cradle, so I place fone in cradle and connect to head unit via bluetooth and all works a treat. Head unit's bluetooth connects immediately when i'm in the range so just press play :-)
