  • D4D serviced now lacking power!

    Hi all,
Just done a 100,000km service on the prado (08 D4D manual). I changed oil and filter, and i changed both fuel filters now it seems to lack a bit of grunt when the turbo spools up compared to before. The only changes i made is i put mobil 1 delvac 5w40 (full syn) insted of delvac 15w40 (mineral) and a genuine fuel filter under the bonnet the old one was aftermarket (white one). Any ideas? doubt it would be the oil, and you'd think genuine filters would be the best for it?. It's not gutless, just not as grunty as before.
    Cheers.

No Air in the system (fuel) ?? Be the only reason I could think of cant see what else would cause it with what you have touched ?? (only guessing here) Have you tried pumping the plunger to make sure it hard ?? Cheers Steve

Yes mate, pumped the plunger i thought air also. Might keep pumping and see what happens. I was going to bleed it but couldn't find a bleed screw.

        WARNING AZZSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if they have a bleed valve or not BUT PLEASE BE CAREFULL presume your aware (maybe not) but these D4D run extremely high pressure in the fuel rail so if cracking open while running may cause yourself an extreme injury (as in possible blindness) or cutting through the skin ??????? Cheers Steve

Cheers steve, know about the common rail high pressure thing. I thought there may of been a bleed screw on top of the primer (bleed when not running).
          Cheers

            Gday azzss

I wouldn't worry about air in the fuel system on the 1KD as it is self purge anyway! If no fuel leakage from the the new fuel filters then you can rule out the fuel system drawing air.

I would check the vacuum hoses to the left of the oil filter and make sure that you didn't accidentally pull off one of 3 vacuum hoses from one of the 3 x solenoids as one of them operates both the turbo dump and EGR.... If this was the case you would loose power and the turbo would spool-up but you would also have an engine warning light on?

            Cheers

Thanks mate, will check the hoses seems strange its lost a little punch. Only other thing i did was rotate the tyres still goes quite ok just lost the edge for some reason.
              Cheers.

Hi azzss, Did you replace the Jet filter under the vehicle (Between the transmission tunnel and the left hand side fuel tank? Tiny filter and a pain to do without a hoist. They are pretty expensive ($90-$120ish)

                  I agree with Skywalkerrun.

Check those vacuum tubes. You will get a much better look at them if you remove the intercooler. It only takes a couple of minutes.

Hi Kaosad, I did replace the filter between the two tanks (little black one with one hose in and one out, bracket with 10mm bolt) is this the one?. Davros, hoses seem to be all on but i'll have another look.

Old thread, but wonder if there was an answer for this, mines been doing it the odd time in the past, more lately. restarting sometimes fixing it but the power as per the first post, not gone but not as grunty.

Look at the MAP filter and sensor. My sons recently had a similar problem and was told the MAP filter was dirty and needed bypassing. There has also been some previous discussions about the MAP sensor being contaminated with oil and needing a clean. I drive a 1KZTE so not much help with the location but I know both can be found by removing the plastic shroud.
