  • ARB Awning vs Sunseeker 2?

I'm in the market for an awning and I think I have narrowed the search down to two. Firstly the tried and tested ARB Awning and the second is the new Rhino Rack Sunseeker 2. Price wise these units seem to be pretty much on par. Anyone had a good/bad experience with either of these brands or perhaps good aftersales service associated with their dealers?
Looking to snap one up in the next few days as I have trip planned for early next week. I would like to hear from anyone in the PP community that has or has had and used either product. Thanks guys...
Avoiding all eye contact I shamefully stare down at my muddy feet and softly announce... "My name is Dale and I am a 4WD accessories addict".

all the awnings are pretty well the same, the ARB, Ironman, Opensky are all made in the same factory, they just have a different bag, the quality is really good, i have had my opensky awning now for about 5 years and its still going strong, the bag has some sundamage but is still protecting the awning, the only thing to watch out with any of the awnings is to peg it down when ever you use it, they are like a sail when the wind gets under then, they will break the plastic brackets the attach the poles to the aluminium backing plate, these brackets can be bought for about $10 each, thats about all that goes wrong with them. have a look at this link for a few more ideas

Bought an Oztrail awning from BCF for $199. Couldn't be happier with that. Looks very similar to my colleague's ARB awning.

I had the red centre awning from TJM and it was a good bit of gear. I had to put in extra pop rivets to keep it all together but I have heard they all have that problem.

            Hi,

Which awning did you end up with and are you happy with it?

I am tossing up these two at the moment.

            Cheers,

            Az

I went for an ARB 2.5 x 2.5 and its massive. probably go a 2 x 2.5 next time, still yet to give it an on the road test, but its looking good so far, Id be checking the weight too, its a heavy bugger. nice solid build though, but I got it free with my tent.

I grabbed a cool-flo 2.5x3.1m awning. Pretty happy with it. Metal hinges is a bonus. But as 4wd supplies stated above the pop rivets seem to be a weak point. I fitted some aluminium angle inside the channels where the poles pivot out and ran some stainless bolts through the whole lot. Overkill I guess but now it's rock solid. One more tip, drop one corner a bit if it's raining. Mine dumped about 50lts of water on me in the middle of a storm about 1am when one of the poles collapsed from the weight. Scared the crap out of me. I thought a tree had fallen down on the prado :-(

The road less travelled is definitely the best road to be on
