With this problem still outstanding on the 120 series forum:

I think that $55 for the use of Tapatalk is a bit rich considering the reduced functionality when browsing threads on Tapatalk with this bug still outstanding.

      Additional Membership Options

Membership options have long been discussed and I've finally decided to offer them to those who are interested.

As a regular registered member you don't lose anything. If you wish to become a financial member you gain additional benefits.

The Bungalow is a forum set aside for financial, retail and corporate members. It places conversations and discussions out of the public view.

TapaTalk has always been on trial here. The impact of TapaTalk and ad blocking techniques means that we don't really have a sustainable source of income.

It's my goal to make PradoPoint a sustainable website, one that can grow and continue to be developed and updated as the years roll on.

We have a valuable resource here, which is being easily tapped into by companies and retailers who are generating significant sales from our member base.

In part, these membership options will formalise how businesses have been using the forum.

A multi-retailer online store is in the pipeline to tidy up all the sales going on via private messaging and email; for both retailer and customer benefit.

I appreciate that some of you are avid TapaTalk users. I'd like to see how many contributing members this may impact. Please email me at [email protected] and I'll keep a tally.

I hope that the above provides an insight into the reasoning behind the membership options.

Please remember, you can always use and participate in PradoPoint for FREE.

      Cheers,
      Aaron

I am a new member and have found this forum invaluable as I made my decision to purchase an Altitude Prado which I pick up next week.

This forum also assisted with the purchase of accessories & tyres.

        May I make a suggestion.

That the $55.00 membership fee includes a Prado Point club card that enables you to access a 10% discount at most of the 4x4 accessory retailers.

I am sure most of the retailers will welcome the opportunity.

I am a member of LROCV & this is a benefit of membership, my membership is offset by discounts which usually add up to more than I pay for memberships.

I know ARB always asks to see my card to gain the club discount.

In addition being a member of an affiliated 4x4 club also enables access to some closed roads thru DSE Victoria.
I have taken advantage of this for a few years now on our winter snow trips to Mt Skene via the Jamieson Licola Road which many of you will know is officially closed during winter.
DSE issue permits to club members which then allows you to access the road legally & with out the threat of steep fines.
The reason DSE give clubs permits is to reduce the likliehood of rescues in inclement remote regions.
Club trips are usually organised, responsible and more importantly have the ability to self rescue in the event of breakdown, accident or being bogged.

        Some food for thought.

        Regards

        Disco4

That should be sorted now Peter.

Disco4 - they are great ideas. Input like yours will help us to tune the membership options moving forward.

I don't even know what Tapatalk is, but I gather its something to do with iPad's.

I reckon if you are rich enough to affford an iPad, then just pay the $55! Hahaha!

I laugh because I look at my mobile phone and it still has buttons!

It also works on iPhones and iPods. I used Tapatalk on my iPod. Like you my phone has buttons and although it has a camera I can't even send or receive photo's, let alone access the Internet.

                  Good idea.
With membership benifits like these it may be worth $55.00
Paying members need to be able to get more than TapaTalk and fancy icons/logos for their money.

                    Thanks Aaron... paid via Paypal...

For me, it's not what do we get for the $55... we've been talking for ages about helping out Aaron with the cost of running this forum for a number of years now.
I'm sure if we search back to the old threads on the subject that plenty of people said they would be happy to pay a once off payment to help the forum along... I even remember the figure of $1/week being suggested.

The sticking point was always blanket payment for all memberships or how can we keep it free but donate some funds if the member wanted too.... well, here's the solution.

... and as far as I can tell, nothings changed except TapaTalk... so, on an iPad just log on via Safari ??
Sorry, can't help with phones with buttons
                    Cheers, Leon

                      Thanks Aaron,

Is there anything we need to do or change once payment is made?
                      Cheers, Leon

Leon, the only issue I have is that Safari is slow as... you know me, can't stand hanging around when we should be driving tracks.

See ya on the tracks, Richo. Hopefully meeting more new Pradopoint members each time we go driving.

                          Snaga is right.
You WILL still be able to use PP as you have in the past.
IF you decide on premium membership you will be able to access more features.
This is common on many forums.

This has been discussed for many years so is of no surprise to see initiated finally.

We do not need comments and posts installing ideas into people on removing posts etc etc, anyone that does this will be banned naturally. We have seen the damage it does when someone has a sook and removes all their posts. You all have felt that too with many comments on threads that make no sense.

Jeffers, it's a 2 way street, when you joined PP you agreed to the rules, one of them was that information posted is public knowledge and also of allowed usage to PP.
It's a catch 22, forums with large bandwidth cost a lot of money to run, someone has to pay that ultimately. Do you get free petrol? Free electricity? You get my point.
This is as you know the best Prado information forum around, there is plenty of generic 4wd forums, but none so dedicated to just the Prado. users are of course welcome to use whatever forum they wish no one is holding guns to heads.

When advertising came along to try helping to pay the bills everyone whinged and wanted to be able to pay to remove them. Chance is here now..

This is all early days and things are still to be finalised as to exactly what you will get as a paid member.

Other forums that I frequent have a paid membership area.
The paying members do not see any of the advertising, a larger PM inbox, and not much else.
The same forum also uses google adsense words and a few other non-intrusive ways of getting revenue... Perhaps these are other ideas.

Aaron, I suppose the first question is what do the options look like?

Also Aaron if we r disabling TT can we fix the what's new button to give threads over say the last 24hrs wether we have been on quickly or not, the main reason I use TT was because it was easy to pull up the latest threads and scroll through.

That was the best thing about TT (along with portability)
