I should start out by saying that I will probably pay the $55, not for the percieved benifits it gives, as many of those benifits are things we have previously had and then removed, such as larger PM box and signature pictures which were lost when the forum was upgraded/downgraded? depending on your point of view. I would like to point out the following though.

I don't believe it was ever communicated to the general public that Tapatalk was only a trial, therefore many people are going to feel like they now have to pay for a previously free option. Personally, I have tapatalk, I don't like it, I don't use it, I dont intend to use it.

The most recent discusssion on the topic of paid membership I can recall was in this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...hlight=members and this is a quote from Aaron in the last post just before the thread was locked, stopping any further discussion on the topic.

    Hi Everyone,

There will never be in the foreseeable future a paid membership model.

Leaving the forum open to view means we get more search traffic which means more people. Some will contribute, some won't.

Vbulletin has a membership option that removes ads which we may explore.

The supplier section will generate revenue and the ads will do the same.

As far as I'm concerned, that's sufficient.

Let's not revisit it all again.

    Cheers,
    Aaron
So paid membership options should be a huge surprise to everyone

Peterpilots post in this thread on the problems with threads is a great example of what I really would like to see come from paid membership. That is an Admin team that actually takes note of what the members concerns are, then either acts to rectify the problem or effectivly communicates why the issue cant be overcome.

Communication from the Admin team regarding issues seems to be eratic at best, the issue Peter highlighted was brought up in a thread only a few days ago, the thread was locked and no indication was given as to whether the situation was ever going to be adressed, yet it took Aaron 5 minutes to fix the problem!

The issue of what posts people have read and how they are highlighted has been an issue since the forum upgrade nearly a year ago, and I can't recall anyone letting Joe public know whether there is a solution in sight. If i don't pay then I can live with those issues as much as they annoy the shit out of me, If i am paying for PP, the very least I expect is the Admin team to communicate effectivly.

    Cheers Andrew

At the end of the day this forum costs PLENTY of money to run for your use. No one can deny that!

Tapatalk for guests will soon dissapear too as it will be a premium option, another premium option will also possibly be the APP that Vbulletin has created.
This is early days and setting up and implementation is still undergoing trial and creation.

Basically the ads are NOT paying for the site, and another way has to be implemented to sustain it.

You have to remember "some users" here are making a nice sideline of income from the products they advertise and sell solely thru this forum. Ebay, and other selling sites cost money, sadly this one is likely too as well in a need to survive.
Its been a pretty good free ride so far, and will remain so but without some perks in the future as well.

As for the issue Peterpilot was talking about, Aaron was the only one who could fix that, so it was out of others hands. Aaron provides this site for your free use from his own money, if it takes him a while to sdort stuff, then so be it. he is probably running his own business to make money to afford said free site for your usage.
Yes, I would wholely expect further advances in error fixing and features for paid members and rebate as it is then another job for him and an income stream to make the site sustainable.

You may complain about ads and things here, or having to pay a bit of money, I suggest going and trawling around 4x4action or Mr4x4 forums/ sites for the ads and things they have to run to make the places survive. certainly a lot more than PP ever has.

But this isn't yet one of the benefits of paying (unless your on tapatalk - i think, haven't used it much)

•You may choose your own title - rather than the default rank (ie. lurker).
            •Access to TapaTalk.
•A distinctive badge icon that sits next to your username.
            •Access to The Bungalo forum.
•Images may be used in your signature.
            •250 private message quota.
•Larger image album uploads & more photos.
            •A warm and fuzzy feeling*.

I'll probably join at some point in the near future, as the information on here is invaluable - saved $170 on a snorkle install because of the info on here, but for people just looking at the additional benefits of membership and the $55per year price tag, there doesn't seem to be enough of a benefit to justify the cost.

Also for those who are tapatalk users it seems that they have to become members to continue to use it (using it as a guest isn't the same as half the fun of the forum is contributing) maybe the Admin team can look at a Tapatalk membership where all you get is access via tapatalk, based on how much advertising revenue PP gets per member, as this would be the revenue lost by someone not seeing adds on Tapatalk, plus a bit extra to cover any additional costs to have tapatalk (eg licencing?).

Finally as is my wife refers to PP as P0rn, wait till I tell her I'm paying for access.....

This was in the context of closing the forum to the public, so that only registered or paid users could browse the forum. It will always be free to use.

The only issue it seems is the one surrounding TT.

I'm more than happy to explore different avenues and additional benefits. I really like the idea of a discount card and with the online retail store coming, perhaps this is where other savings can be made.

We now have some financial members (thank you) - almost as many that have expressed concerns over TT.

I'm going to trial the removal of Google Ads for registered and financial members to see what if any impact it has. I have a sneaking suspicion that only guests click on them anyway.

Thanks for the feedback thus far. It is with your input that we can make PradoPoint even better.

Hutch - I've just had a good look at the 'What's New' setup. Essentially it shows you what's new since you logged in last - then once your session times out, it marks all posts as read.

I've lengthened the session time to an hour (it was 15 mins). Let's see if that changes anything. Otherwise another solution will need to be located.

Snaga - the memberships are processed once a day automatically. Nothing you need to do.

For me, it's not what do we get for the $55... we've been talking for ages about helping out Aaron with the cost of running this forum for a number of years now.
I'm sure if we search back to the old threads on the subject that plenty of people said they would be happy to pay a once off payment to help the forum along... I even remember the figure of $1/week being suggested.

The sticking point was always blanket payment for all memberships or how can we keep it free but donate some funds if the member wanted too.... well, here's the solution.

... and as far as I can tell, nothings changed except TapaTalk... so, on an iPad just log on via Safari ??
Sorry, can't help with phones with buttons

I'm with you Leon, this site provides so much very worthwhile information & some very funny bits as well.
It is a gold mine of information & if it means contributing a fraction over $1 a week then I'm in & I don't even use TT.

Thank you Aaron, appreciate your time & past expenses.
Have just made payment on Paypal.

                    Cheers

so that's why tt no longer works.

Either way, excuse the language, but it's a bit of a c*nt move.

some forewarning would have been nice...

Also; $55 seems a little rich.

                            Just my 2c here:

I've only ever contributed $ once to an online forum. The payment for that forum is voluntary and is $US10 per year. The benefits offered boil down to the same sort of thing as here (private donating members area, badge on forum name, etc), except the TT is included in any membership regardless of free/pay basis. I don't use TT, so I wouldn't pay to use it and I think tying TT to payment is a mistake in this instance (sorry Admin)

As a member of this site, I'm willing to chip in to support it, but tying voluntary payments to such a relatively high rate and the provision of a service that I have no use for means I am highly unlikely to do so.

I suspect if the donation was something like $10 per year, the majority of regular members would cough up...

Fully support the idea of retail members and corporate members. I do think that these should be moderated though, just paying up should be only part of the bargain, these organisations must also live up to expectations and be at risk of being shown the door when they don't. Also worry that this change might be exposing Pradopoint to an implied responsibility or liability in case of product and advise litigation. I am not a lawyer though...

Anyway, good luck, hope it works out.

This site has saved me well over the subscription price in the time I have been browsing. PP saves me and everyone else on here by not having to learn by mistake. Not much interested in tapatalk however payment made and warm and fuzzy feeling awaited!
